DIY Flower Wall + Bridesmaids’ Party

We’re no stranger to a good DIY around these parts. And with Valentine’s festivities mere days away, there’s no better time to put on your crafty pants and plan a little shindig for you and the girls. The ladies of Lovelyfest are showing us how it’s done (plus, breaking down that amazing DIY flower wall) and you can find even more of Cameron Ingalls’ captures in the full gallery over here!

Tissue Paper in various colors

Unfold your standard tissue paper so all the sheets are together and it’s flat. Using a pencil, hand trace organic petal shapes in large (13″), medium (8″) and small (5″) on the tissue paper. You can be creative with these shapes, just make sure they are somewhat long and have a wide top and narrow bottom.

Cut out the shapes and keep the sheets together as you cut them out. Once you’re done cutting out all the sizes make piles of the small, medium and large petals.

Starting with the small petals, take one at a time and scrunch the small end together, take four to five more petals and do the same. Then tape all the small petals together along the scrunched end.

Now starting with the medium-sized petals, take one at a time and scrunch the smaller end (just like step 3) and tape each one at the scrunched end to the base of the small petal cluster. Continue around the cluster, overlapping as you go.

Repeat step 3 but now with the large-sized petals. After you have all the petals on it should start looking more like a flower. Take a ripped off piece of yellow, mint or green tissue and roll it in a ball then undo it. Make a space in the center of the flower and using your hot glue gun, glue the wrinkled piece of tissue within the other pieces of tissue, leaving a good amount of space to glue the moss inside.

Take a handful of moss and glue it inside the center of the flower. Now just scrunch the ends of the tissue to make it look more like a flower. And voila! You have an awesome, DIY giant flower! We like to hang them on the wall or use them as a table runner.

From Lovelyfest… We believe there are two very important questions involved in the planning of a wedding: First, “Will you marry me?” and second, “Will you be my bridesmaid?” Maybe the second isn’t quite as big as the first, but still, it is a question that must be asked! For those of us who have gotten married, we know that deciding who to ask is sometimes a painstaking activity. We want to include our closest and most beloved friends in the process of getting married, yet don’t want to leave anyone out. We figured once this decision is hammered out, a celebration is in order! This is where a bridesmaid dinner party comes in. It’s a night for a bride to gather her future bridesmaids and give them a chance to get excited for the wedding.

These days it is not uncommon to get a text message or email regarding a wedding, so in this inspirational shoot, our bride used snail mail to send her friends lovely “Eat, Drink and Be Merry” invitations. These Rifle Paper Co. cards captured the feminine, glam vibe of the party to come! She requests that her potential bridesmaids wear their favorite cocktail dresses for a fun, girly party. Although her friends were unaware, this was the first official event of her own wedding season and this bride did not want to disappoint!

The party was held at a beautiful home in the back hills of Arroyo Grande, CA where photographer Cameron Ingalls captured every possible epic sun ray and all the surrounding natural beauty. The bride greeted her friends at the front door and invited them inside to a table of delightful favors. Each girl was told to grab a unique vintage lucite purse, individually picked out for her, and to not peek at what was inside! After mingling, the girls retreated to the back porch where Lovelyfest laid out a glam bar complete with Pink Watermelon Martinis, pink sugar rims, and a handsome bartender. Under the twinkling lights, the girls chatted and toasted to a great night together with the future bride to be.

After the cocktail hour, the bride ushered her girlfriends inside and they found their places at the dining table. Lucite placecards led them to their seats at a glamorous white table where Lovelyfest’s handcrafted honeycomb runner and soft floral wall decor took the main stage. Beautiful vintage floral plates from Heartstone Ranch lined the table and were topped off with mini pink glass champagne flutes. After the bartender popped individual bottles of pink champagne, the bride stood to give a toast. She told the girls to open their purses, and inside they each found a Rifle Paper Co. “Will You Be My Bridesmaid” card along with a sweet note. All ecstatic to be by their friends’ side on her big day; they ate, drank, and were merry.

The decor of the room was elegant, glam and feminine, complete with a multitude of colors and textures. Pinks, greens, mint, and white were the main colors and were accented by floral prints and lucite acrylic accessories. Copper was a different twist on the more commonly used metals and was seen in the flatware, candlesticks, and various other accents. The desserts table was the next hot spot for these girls, and it definitely did not go untouched. A watercolored “Cheers” sign led the girls right over to an ice cream sundae bar laden with toppings from sprinkles to homemade madeleines and shortbread cookies. Sweet Pea Bakery graciously provided a lovely Tuxedo Cake, with frosting that resembled the chocolate syrup poured over each ice cream sundae. The desserts rounded out the fabulous girls night and definitely did not disappoint.

This dinner party served as an event to make the brides’ friends feel special and celebrated as well as a time to be excited for the bride! The bridesmaids vintage purse gifts serve as a reminder of how important each girl is to the bride and will be used at any fun festivities leading up to the wedding! Each girl is important and unique just like the purses and that is exactly what this dinner party was for!
