From the Bride…Stratton and I met on the first day of school at the University of Idaho. From the moment I saw him I knew that he was something special. We dated for three years when he proposed on New Year’s Eve. When deciding on a venue we knew we wanted something outdoors; we fell in love over many fishing and outdoor adventures. Having both grown up visiting the beautiful Wood River Valley we decided on River Run Lodge in Sun Valley, Idaho as our place to say “I do.”

I knew I wanted a classic wedding dress. With my mom, sisters and friend I found a Justin Alexander lace ball gown with a beautiful train and corded lace and a pearl and crystal beaded belt that was added. Stratton chose a handsome, black, fitted suit with a gold tie.

After choosing a venue, the first thing we chose was the colors for our wedding. We both decided we loved black, silver, gold, and an array of ivories…keeping in mind the colors of our college Vandal pride. Because we love the natural outdoor beauty of Idaho so much, we chose a rustic resort theme.

We kept the flowers for the reception and the bouquets simple and natural with baby’s breath, lilies, micro daisies, and craspedia billy balls. Stratton hand-made fishing flies to use in my bouquet and the boutonnieres.

To keep our wedding outfits personal and sentimental, I wore a garter that my grandmother made with lace rosettes and a lady bug for good luck. I had hearts sewn in to my wedding dress made from the shirt fabric of my late grandfathers. I wore my mother’s diamond earrings, my grandmother’s pearls, and Stratton wore a tie pin that has been handed down through generations in his family.

Stratton and I exchanged vows we wrote ourselves at the base of Baldy Mountain with all of our friends and family in attendance. Our beautiful black lab, Magic, who donned hot pink nails and a floral wreath, was our ring bearer. We kicked off the reception with an entrance down a grand staircase to our first dance song “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. Followed by dances with our parents and moving speeches by our loved ones. It was a beautiful day full of love and laughter.
