From the Bride... My husband and I met and were engaged in my hometown of Wilmington, so it made perfect sense to continue the tradition and have our wedding where I grew up – on the family farm.  Right from the moment we started planning, we knew we wanted our celebration of marriage to be intimate and personal, surrounded by the people closest to us.

After seven months of anticipation, the big day finally arrived – a few hiccups along the way but nothing too major!  With our decision to have the wedding in November (our dating anniversary), there was a chance the weather could have been less than favourable. But, on the morning of the day I was to marry my best friend, it was absolutely perfect.

Before heading to the ceremony, my family and I stopped at the cemetery. Two weeks before the wedding, my grandfather had passed away after a long battle with cancer. Hilton had asked me to marry him on Pa and Gran’s 50th wedding anniversary, so it was especially hard when he went before we were married. I wanted to honour his memory in some way so we put flowers on his grave, and then went on to the ceremony.

Following through with the country/rustic theme, our ceremony setting was among the gum trees, with hay bale seating for our guests and a wrought iron archway to say our vows under. Walking down the aisle is one of the most vivid and happiest memories I have – seeing Hilton waiting for me at the end and knowing we were about to start a life together.

Hilton and I didn’t like the idea of keeping our guests waiting while we had photos after the ceremony, so after a few family photos we headed to the reception. The North Star in Melrose provided a beautifully cooked, three-course meal. After all the speeches had been so touchingly delivered and dessert had been eaten, we said our goodbyes and headed off with our photographer.

Melanie, from With Love and Lace Melanie, was absolutely amazing. From scouting locations and making photography props (the night before) to ensuring my wedding ring got to Hilton on time, she was a professional. Mel immediately made everyone feel comfortable and in doing so, was so much fun to work with! Somehow, we even managed to get my dress and I over a barbed wire fence for some of my favourite sunset photos at the spot where I first met Hilton!

All in all it was a perfect day and I would not change anything!
