Washington Backyard Wedding

Weddings like this one from Ryan Flynn Photography make me want to let out an audible squeal. It’s just that good. With DIY florals they not only assembled, but also planted and grew with love, and every gorgeous DIY detail in between – this fête is filled with every little thing I just adore about weddings, and you can see them all right here.

From the Bride…I think long before we were even engaged, both Will and I knew that when we did get married, it would be at his gorgeous childhood home in Yakima, Washington. The two of us, along with all our closest friends, grew up at his house—playing darts on the patio, picking grapes off the vine in the arbor, and having various celebrations in the beautiful garden.

As we started planning our wedding, we wanted to keep everything as local to Yakima and as personal to us as possible. Luckily we had a great team on our side to make an incredibly lovely DIY wedding. Will’s mother, a Master Gardener, started planting flowers in our colors several months before our day. Her and Will’s sister spent days in the basement before our wedding, assembling every bouquet, boutonnière, and table vase with flowers from their garden. Will’s dad, a wood-turning artist, helped out by making us wood disks for the tables, candle sticks, beautiful bowls, and pretty much anything made of wood needed for our day. He also made 120 rough-wood succulent holders, which we assembled as favors in honor of Will’s brother, Robbie, who loved succulents, and passed away a little over a year ago. Will and I helped out too—together we made our programs, created thoughtful playlists in lieu of a DJ, and Will especially worked for weeks on the beautiful lighting that really made the night come alive. We got an excess of wine and beer from our favorite local winery and brewery, and had our friends bring desserts and make our cake. Even a large amount of our food, prepared by our local caterer, came straight from the garden. It was honestly a blast creating this special, personal day, and we couldn’t be happier with how things turned out. We felt like every detail was specific to us as a couple, and made by someone we love. It was a gorgeous summer evening in our favorite backyard, where we all danced the night away under twinkle lights spread out in every direction.

Our photographer, Ryan Flynn, did a stunning job of capturing every significant moment, and we will forever cherish the photos of our best day, surrounded by the people that we love.
