From the Bride...My groom and I are pretty practical in nature; to wedding plan and juggle demanding jobs was a challenge. We knew early on that in order for us to get through the process and to achieve a result that we hoped, we had to systematically prioritize our must haves and not dwell too much on the little things. That being said, we started out our planning process with multiple to-do lists and thoroughly populated excel spreadsheets, consisting of options from venue to budget to all other vendor categories. We knew we couldn't do it all ourselves, and luckily with the help of our dear family and friends, and what we consider to be the backbone of our planning effort Alicia K Designs, we were able to distill all of the choices into a sensible result and pull off more than we could have ever imagined.

In search of our venue, we knew we wanted to have our ceremony and reception outdoors. We drove literally hundreds of miles throughout the Bay Area and saw everything ranging from fully outfitted resorts to manicured vineyards to simple unadorned plots of land. Like finding the right partner, when we saw it we knew it was the one. There were so many gorgeous natural elements in Clos LaChance that we felt that we didn't need to do much more for the decorations. From the Tuscan-style building adjacent a stone-clad reception terrace, to the nicely manicured lawn amidst a backdrop of rolling hills overlooking uniquely asymmetric vineyards, to the blossoming mulberry trees in the cocktail area, to the smattering of rose bushes which lined the walkways, Clos LaChance was rustic yet refined, and we just knew that the photographer we had in mind, Yvonne Wong, would capture the expanse of space and the minute details perfectly.

In planning the look and feel of our wedding, Alicia helped us to design a cohesive color scheme and style. Our goal was to allow the natural beauty of the surroundings stand out, accented with complimentary colors. We aimed to create a modern and fresh, yet cozy and relaxed feel to our celebration. Grey immediately stood out as a base as it would allow the corals, peaches, and pinks to pop amidst the vast backdrop of greens, yellows, and light browns which adorned the extended landscape. This color theme was weaved seamlessly into our ceremony and reception, creating an effortless transition to our decor.

We also wanted to add a piece of ourselves into the mix, by incorporating DIY paper elements throughout our ceremony and reception. SMP and Martha Stewart were our go-to sites for inspiration on signs, programs, menus, and labels, and we relied heavily on the neat arts and crafts tools and various paper goods available at Paper Source to accent our mini paper projects. To this day, we are constantly in search of opportunities to use zots, those awesome strong double-sided adhesives which we could not live without during our craft sessions, not to mention bakers twine!

We tried to make every effort enjoyable in some way, from cupcake treats scattered throughout checkpoints in a DIY day, to stops at fun places (ahem for ice cream) while venue searching. Our hankering for sugar was manifested in an array of candy treats in charming apothecary jars and an ice cream bar with all of our favorite flavors and toppings, which complimented our delicious wedding cake, creating a sweet ending to our special day. Some would say that we are so into sweets that I subconsciously picked a wedding gown that resembled light fluffy whipped cream. I am not one to disagree when I laid my eyes on the Jim Hjelm number just a month into our engagement, I knew that I had to pull the trigger!

All in all, our wedding was more than we could have ever asked for. Even though the process was quite new to us and required more effort than we could have ever anticipated, we are so grateful to have had the support of our family, friends, and vendors to help guide us through it all. We feel so lucky to have celebrated the next chapter of our lives in such a beautiful way. If we could offer one piece of advice, it would be not to sweat the small stuff. Enjoy each moment and take the time to let it soak in; it will be a day you will never forget.
