From the Bride... We met through mutual friends during our sophomore year at the University of California, Berkeley. Go Bears! Our first official date was at the Moffitt library as Wayne was studying for his Chemical Engineering midterm and I was studying organic chemistry. That's how we knew we were meant for each other. Since then, we've made it through four years of long distance while I was in medical school in New York City and Wayne moved to Houston to begin working in investment banking. We finally made it back to the Bay Area three years ago with Wayne taking his current job in private equity and as I started my Pediatric Residency and now Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at Stanford.
Wayne popped the question under blue skies on a pier in St. Tropez on the French Riviera. Despite a few miscues including bad weather the prior day in Nice (it was pouring), less than ideal conditions in Paris (small children ruining perfect moments), and some awkward attempts to hide the ring throughout the trip (including in dirty laundry), the proposal went off perfectly! I was completely surprised even though he was convinced that I knew what was happening all along. We spent the remainder of our trip celebrating in the French Riviera and then in Chamonix Mont-Blanc before heading back to the States. We got engaged on September 5, 2011, signed the Bacara Resort and Spa in Santa Barbara in April 2012 and got married on June 1, 2013! An almost 2 year engagment.
I went to three stores with my bridesmaids on my first day wedding dress shopping and my Amy Kuschel gown was one of the first gowns I tried on. I immediately fell in love! Loved the shopping experience, too. All of my jewelry was designed by a friend of a friend (wedding band, engagement ring, tennis bracelet and earrings)! All of the bridesmaids had Kate Spade friendship bracelets.
Our wedding ceremony and reception took place at the Bacara Resort and Spa. Style was black tie optional with pastels and creams, soft lighting and orchids. Our goal was understated elegance. I wanted the venue to be the main attraction since the Bacara is so beautiful. Classic and timeless. We are wine fanatics, so we placed all the escort cards on wine corks. For a fun little twist, our programs were blue and gold for Cal colors!
