St. John Destination Wedding from Carina Skrobecki Photography
Is there anything better than celebrating your "I do's" in paradise? I think not. Especially when that paradise happens to be the ever-wonderful St. John and those "I do's" happen to be sprinkled with pretty pink hues, fab paper goods from Carina Skrobecki Design and drop-dead gorgeous blooms from Roses Too, Inc.. That's what we call a love-filled wonderland with crystal blue waters and acres upon acres of glistening sand. See it all captured by Carina Skrobecki right here.
From Carina Skrobecki Photography... Amy and Kenn were married on the beautiful island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands at the Caneel Bay Resort. The venue was beyond picturesque and left us no shortage of amazing places for photos. All guests were invited to come a couple of days early to enjoy a welcome dinner and cocktails as well as a rehearsal dinner at breathtaking restaurant nestled into the side of a cliff overlooking Cruz Bay. Guests came from all over the country and made the entire week an enjoyable celebration.
Being from the Pacific Northwest myself, it was amazing to see how lush the island was, and how it's wet atmosphere reminded me of home. The two of them decided to keep decor pretty simple, letting the natural landscape do most of the work with "decorating". The wedding itself incorporated some tropical details, but also felt fresh and unique to Amy & Kenn. A palette of corals, oranges, and blues were present in paper materials as well as floral arrangements, and small anchors and nautical details were dotted throughout the scenery. The bride wore a simple lace dress accented with pearl and diamond jewelry, and bridesmaids wore an assortment of dresses varying from purples & pinks to corals and fuchsias. The groomsmen were sharp in navy sport coats with a touch of tropical, Tommy Bahama dress shirts.
The best part was getting to document Amy slipping into her reception dress at the end of the evening to make dancing a bit more fun. Even the groom was surprised and the little feathered number was totally a hit!
From the Bride... We loved that we did a destination wedding! Kenn had previously taken me on a trip to St. John and we instantly fell in love with the small, quaint, beautiful island. When we were inviting guests, we knew they were coming from all over the country, so we wanted to make sure that they felt taken care of and could relax. I have to say, my favorite memory from the wedding was seeing all of our guests during the cocktail hour of reception they had all made friends with one another during the days leading up to the wedding and it was great seeing everyone happy for us and mingling.
We also planned a few activities for guests through the week to opt into or opt out of.... like a welcome dinner, island tours, and cocktails on the beach. It was also nice to have our parents arrive a day earlier then friends, so we could have a nice dinner with them prior to the festivities. We loved having our wedding on St. John.
