New Zealand Wedding from Sutherland Kovach Studio

From the second I saw this wedding, I knew the bride was a SMP girl through and through. She's got style and spirit and can DIY with the very best of 'em. And her wedding? Think the most lush, feminine, al fresco soiree you've ever seen with planning by My Waiheke Wedding & Events and flowing florals from Leaf & HoneySutherland Kovach Studio was there to snap up every moment and Off the Market Productions crafted the wedding day film. Join me for a little mid-week swoonage, won't you?

From the Bride... Bernie and I meet at a popular bar in Auckland on a busy Friday night, we were both out with friends from work. We instantly noticed each other from across the room. I remember going to get a round of summery cocktails and our paths crossed. Bernie was super nervous talking to me; I remember he had a handful of coins which he dropped all over the bars floor when we got chatting. We only chatted for a short time before exchanging numbers. Bernie is originally from the South Island of New Zealand and had recently re located to Auckland for work. He asked me if I would show him the best of what Auckland had on offer. We just felt like instant best friends and its been a blissful journey ever since.

We love traveling and had just returned from our 6 week European adventure. We fell in love with the Mediterranean and in particular Italy. When we stumbled across beautiful Lavender Hill on Waiheke Island, it was instant love for the both of us. It was just so perfect. We felt like we were back in Italy all over again & like it was meant to be. Lavender Hill has beautiful city and harbor views, beautiful lush gardens fill with gorgeous scented lavender, garden roses & the property is surrounded by Olive Groves and Vineyards.

It was important to us to create an atmosphere where all our guests could relax and have fun. We wanted a soft, dreamy, romantic feel yet wanted to keep it organic and natural to reflect the beautiful surroundings and that of the gorgeous Tuscan styled venue of Lavender Hill. The first thing we booked was the venue then our photographer Sutherland Kovach. We were so excited to have them do our photos, their style is gorgeous and just what we were looking for. We used soft shades of blush pink, watery peach & creamy whites. We used natural lines on the tables; lace, aged terracotta pots filled with lavender which lined the aisle and tables, vintage wooden crates, wine barrels, rustic twine & beautiful long lace was tied on the back of each of the ceremony chairs. It looked stunning.
Planning was really exciting and I enjoyed every moment of our vision coming together. Lavender Hill is a venue where you need to bring everything on site.

We had a Wedding Coordinator/Stylist Sophia Hoadley from My Waiheke Wedding & Events who really took care of every little detail so we could relax and enjoy our day without having to worry about the logistics on the day. Our flowers were my most favorite detail of the day. They were so dreamy. Oh how I loved them! Naomi from Leaf & Honey nailed my vision and more. I wanted a full textured bouquet with soft tones, pretty garden foliages & cascading vines like Ivory and Jasmine. She finished the look off with the most stunning creamy white long lace hanging from my bouquet. The Bridemaids wore gorgeous leafy flower crowns with soft romantic roses which looked gorgeous and they lasted the entire day. Adorable!

Our tables were littered with blush pink, white and soft green tea lights, different sized aged terracotta pots filled with gorgeous rustic type plants, florals & petty garden foliages and vines like Jasmine which draped onto the tables where we dined. We had gorgeous hanging vases behind the bridal table as a backdrop which looked incredible against the stunning pink and blue sunset we were spoilt with.

We had beautiful creamy fabric and fairy lights which draped from the ceiling of our Marquee where we dined. We wanted to create an Al Fresco type vibe. We also draped these amazing Festoon lights over the courtyard which looked stunning at night. We danced the night away with our guests with a Full Moon beaming down on us. What more can you ask for!

I remember I looked at wedding blog sites for hours on end, as there are so many ideas out there but Style Me Pretty was my favourite, where I spent most of my time. Once we had nailed our vision by creating mood boards everything started coming together. We feel very blessed to have worked with great suppliers which bought our dreams into reality.

Our only other advice is to take some time out together even for a few minutes. The day really does go quickly. I remember Bernie and slipped away for a few minutes to enjoy the gorgeous sunset looking out to the city in the distance, and looking back on what an incredible day and how it had all come together.
