Whimsical Vancouver Wedding from Danaea Li Photography
This wedding is overflowing with perfection. The kind of perfection that bursts with vibrant colors and style-savvy details you just won't be able to get enough of (believe you me). It's chevron stripes meets the most breathtaking of backyard ceremonies meets a crazy cool reception at the Performance Works meets all sorts of whimsy. And when you're done soaking in every last glorious detail (and there's a lot of them), you'll want to give your entire attention to a bride and groom who are so in love, it's palpable. See it all captured by Danaea Li in the full gallery.
From the Bride... Our wedding in August was such a special day filled with great friends and family, laughter and lots of love. Every element was so close to our hearts, it could not have been more perfect!
We got married in our hometown of Vancouver, Canada. The ceremony took place in my parents' backyard. The luscious green of the forest provided such a beautiful backdrop that we kept the decor here simple. We created a canopy of white umbrellas which was a nod to the common weather pattern in Vancouver of rain. It did not rain on our day however! My brooch bouquet was comprised of special trinkets from many of my friends and family. It also contained two brooches from each of my late grandmothers, which were the most memorable contributions.
The reception was held at Performance Works located at the bustling urban market, Granville Island. I spent a lot of my childhood exploring the market with all of it’s colorful buildings, exotic foods and interesting people. We wanted to bring all of those elements into our day because we both had such fond memories.
We chose a fresh bold palette with pops of bright, vibrant colors to fit with the modern, yet romantic and whimsical theme. The bridal party wore gray with bright accent colors, including our ring bearer, our pug Madeline! We incorporated a playful chevron pattern into our invitations, decor and paper goods. We also brought very personal components into our wedding from the wine cork place card holders (our love of good wine) to our travel map seating chart and travel postcard guestbook (we are travel junkies, you guessed it!). We are also both foodies, so we opted for a modern buffet and pre-dinner tapas. We are both huge pie fans so we had a pie buffet for dessert! In lieu of wedding favors we donated money to a great cause, Kiva, which is a global lending program that aims to alleviate poverty.
As a former wedding planner I wanted to incorporate lots of small details into our day, and our friends, families and vendors helped to bring my vision to life. My husband and I were so happy with our wedding planners Michelle Taneda and Desiree Thring who so calmly and delicately executed our vision. We are also so grateful for the talents of Danaea Li, our photographer, for capturing our day with such a great eye for detail and a candid and timeless ease. We will cherish our photographs forever.
