From the Bride... Jack and I met for the first time when I was applying for a weekend job at his parents' newly opened motorcycle cafe in the small town of York, Western Australia. We worked the weekends, quickly became friends and before we knew it we were the best of friends never leaving each other's sides. Jack has always played a game where he would hide gifts around the house and I would have to play the hot and cold game until I found the gift. His proposal was no different and it holds such great meaning to us both.
From the start of our wedding planning, we tossed up a lot of different ideas of where we would marry, as Jack was from the UK, it was a choice between here or there. After deciding Australia would be the place, we set our sights on traditional English style locations that would be perfect for us. Visiting Caversham House, we knew it was the most ideal place to have our intimate garden style wedding. We celebrated with 55 of our closest family and friends in the beautiful garden house situated on the exquisitely manicured lawns. The tiffany chairs were lined with pastel coloured blooms, each setting having a ceremony program which Jack had designed. We had a wedding chalkboard made up to match our stationery suite which set the scene for what a memorable day it would be.
Having decided on a winter wedding, the sun would set quite early in the afternoon, so we decided having a first look would be perfect, that way we could have our location and bridal party shots prior to the ceremony and it meant we didn't have to spend all our time after the ceremony away from our guests. When we saw each other for the first time in the scenic grassed area by the Swan River, we were both so overcome with joy and happiness and couldn't believe the day was finally here.
As my father had passed away a few years prior, I had Jack's father walk me down the aisle, something that definitely meant a lot to both of us. Walking down the aisle to one of my all-time favorites (From This Moment by Shania Twain), it was the most incredible feeling seeing Jack as he waited for me at the end of the aisle. He was crying tears of happiness and in turn he had the whole room crying tears of joy. Our ceremony was very personal and we really wanted our story to be shared with our loved ones. We started by remembering loved ones who were no longer with us, before taking a trip down memory lane to the time we met and the qualities that we found in one another. We then made our vows, exchanged rings and had the reading Union by Robert Fulgrum recited for the closing of the ceremony.
We then had further photos taken with the gorgeous Carley from Anna Rose Photography, she was so lovely and relaxed, we didn't even notice she was there taking shots, which we were so happy about, as the last thing we wanted was posed, unnatural photography. Carley captured shots in the stunning grounds of Caversham House, on the jetty over the Swan River and we even managed to have some fun in the paddock next door. These shots were all so unexpected as the sun was due to go down quite early and we had a forecast for rain, but we had the most perfect weather and sunset.
Our guests enjoyed refreshments from a beautiful mercury glass apothecary dispenser with little glass milk bottles and personalized paper straws. Canapes were served in the al fresco area whilst we had more photos. The guests then moved into the stunning renovated house and chose their personalized envelope with their name on it from the escort card table. In the envelope was a small card designed in our stationery style that read "You are seated at table number 1, 2, 3, etc" -- our guests loved this as it wasn't like your traditional seating chart.
I spent months planning the style and decor for our big day and decided on the theme of blush pinks, pewter greys and ivories with mercury glass and beautiful blooms such as David Austin roses, garden roses and tulips which made the space feel so warm and intimate. I collected mercury glass jars and votives which we used for the centerpieces from little stores all over Perth, sourced birdcages to hold our cards on our gift table and purchased a silver wishing tree for our guests to write wishes on rather than a traditional guest book. For our favours, we had clear boxes, each with 3 macarons inside coordinated to our wedding palette with a little tag that read "Thank you for being so sweet and sharing our special day", which our guests adored! Our lovely flowers were created by the ever so talented Hannah from Hannah Etherington Flowers in Claremont. We had a vision of garden style flowers on all the centerpieces, plus surrounding flowers on our sweetheart table - she truly delivered the most beautiful setting.
The reception officially kicked off with our first dance, but not before I changed out of my stunning lace keyhole wedding dress into a silk Anna Campbell gown to spend the rest of the evening in. We danced to Endless Love by Lionel Richie & Diana Ross, which was Jack's parents first dance song at their wedding, so it was extra special and meaningful to us all. As the night wore on, our guests mingled, drinks flowed and the speeches entertained and endeared. Once all the formalities were over, we all hit the dance floor and danced the night away to some of our all-time favourites.
We had the most amazing day, not only had we married in front of our loved ones, but our guests were having a wonderful time also. If we could do it all over again, we would, but we wouldnt change a thing.. everything was perfect.
