It’s a blanket of the prettiest pastels and a classic take on the vineyard wedding set against the backdrop of Viansa Winery. So let’s wrap up those last few emails, kick those heels up and start the weekend off with this pretty ditty shot by Stephanie Williams. From Nancy Liu Chin DesignsHave you ever been to a wedding that you just didn’t want to leave?  This is how I would describe Clarice and Hubert’s  wedding at Viansa Winery in Napa.  Even though it was in a tent at Viansa, it felt ike I was attending a wedding at Clarice and Hubert’s back yard lawn.   Though I was only their floral designer, everything about that felt warm and inviting from the moment you were greeted with refreshing drinks to the s’mores by the fire.

One of my favorite things was the sign at the ceremony  — “Today we become a family, please take a seat, not a side.”  It really spoke volumes that Clarice and Hubert wanted their families, relatives, friends to be one.  There was this spirit of joyfulness and unity.   You couldn’t help but be taken in by it’s  warmth.

In all the details, the elegance and reserved beauty that exemplified Clarice the bride’s personal style came through while the fun and whimsy were reflected of Hubert, the groom’s laid back manner shown in his carefree, wide grin.  These two have been through a lot together and their journey as individuals and as a couple were reflected in many ways details.  In their guidepost, you see all the key places where their courtship took them.  In their milestone was marked.   In the table numbers, guests were treated to their dating history.  And on and on.

Every detail was thoughtfully prepared by Clarice who was more than just a client, she was a partner whether she was the event designer, planner or craft/ DIY enthusiast.  From her pastel hues to her embroidered gossamer like bolero, from the curved calligraphy on her invitations to  the bocce ball game setup, from the refined bite size hors d’oeuvres to the Yum Yum food truck — it was just one of those weddings that felt right, felt real to me.   Why would I want the night to end?

As for the flowers —- the flower  were really important to Clarice and we met at my studio many times to refine what Clarice wanted which was bountiful, gentle, natural in movement, not too tailored or stuffy serene. I would also add that it was important that the blooms be “Graceful”.  Flowers that we used included creamy hydrangea, garden roses, blushing bride, parrot tulips which were the bride’s favorites, cyclamen, and so many more.

One of my favorite things was the beautiful welcome table that had spools of thread and wonderful seamstress notions.  These were very important details because Clarice loves to sew and create.  In fact, she was inspired by her own sister’s wedding to begin crafting.  Her floral hairpieces and ring bearer pillows are skillfully made which is why the welcome table was especially important to the design. So many of the details were crafted by Clarice but even from a professional like myself, they looked top notch.  So well designed, so well throughout.
