Bear Flag Farm from Kristy Weldon
The lovely (and very creative) Bride at the center of this amazing Bear Flag Farm wedding said she wanted her guests to feel as though they walked into a very whimsical, private moment - and I do believe she achieved just that. Her wedding to her dashing Groom was not only a reflection of them as a couple, but it also was a simply stunning affair from start to finish. From the Bride....Some people say it was destiny. Others think, ‘well of course they got together, how simple.’ We reconnected after many years of life lived in between. Neither of us could ever have imagined we would meet again and get married. We met when we were in high school… It was a story of unrequited love. Twelve years later, I was visiting the San Francisco area from Los Angeles… At the time, I even had the thought, ‘I’m single and free…. living in France sounds like a wonderful idea…!’ I was busy making plans and hoping for a new life adventure. Well, after reconnecting with Blake, a new life adventure is what I got.
The wedding needed to be an all-out experience, not a cookie cutter event. As an artist, I have a very specific process. I started collecting random cut outs of things that inspired me…. I’m a big believer in dream boards or storyboards. This board had everything and anything on it… ribbons from gifts, menus from restaurants, pictures, and quotes. I was on the quest to really define myself and how I felt about Blake…I wanted to create the effect that the wedding was just Blake and I sharing in these moments, and that no one else was around… I wanted guests to feel like they stumbled on to us. I wanted people to feel like they walked into a whimsical private moment… Very midsummer nights dream…The wedding needed to be very classic, timeless and yet unique. I love bygone eras. The classic 50’s inspired parts of the day and, for my second dress, I went for the 1970’s laurel canyon vibe. These were just loose inspirations though, as I didn’t want to have an era-inspired wedding.
It was the hottest day of the year- literally. We didn’t care, though, because we were so into the moment that it didn’t matter so much. A yoga teacher of mine advised me… ‘No matter what you do, come back to the moment.’ I’m happy to say that we were able to do that… It was all about our commitment to one another, our marriage, it was like we were in this beautiful, intimate exchange the entire time. We took plenty of moments to step back and take a deep breath…
Fun Note on the Shoes: As a child, I loved the movie Sleeping Beauty. At the end, the fairy godmothers change her dress color from pink to blue. As a kid, I truly believed I could have a dress like that if I got married. I knew I wanted to add this blue and pink element in a classy way. One day I was painting an abstract sky watercolor and I remembered that childhood fantasy. I figured, somehow, I could make my shoes change from pink to blue!
