I almost feel like I’m not cool enough to introduce this wedding. I mean, it’s way cooler than the word cool can even describe. With an ultra glamorous backdrop like The London Hotel, modern decor and a striking color palette executed by So Happi Together + JL Designs, this is one of those weddings that will suck you in to Team Modern quicker than you can bat an eyelash. From the Bride… We wanted the wedding to be fun and memorable since we had family flying in from all over the world. Morris wanted to make sure that everyone got drunk and I wanted to make sure that everyone that came had something memorable to take home with them. In the design department, Morris and I have always leaned toward modern and clean designs so we wanted our wedding to have the same chic feeling.
Although our wedding followed a pretty Western guideline, we knew that we still wanted to incorporate some of the main Chinese aspects from our heritage. We hired Jane (from Olive Hue Paper Goods) to come up with our wedding invitation design that used the double happiness character in a modern way. I had originally told her that I wanted something similar to a Moroccan tile but liked her use of the character as a border much more. Another important aspect of the design was the colors that were chosen- plum and burgundy. My Mom is very traditional and superstitious so I knew I had to include red and gold “for luck” in some form for the wedding so I tried to go with rich wine and berry tones because I wanted the wedding to have a chic, fun and glamorous feel to it.
