This bride? She’s beyond stunning. The kind of stunning that you have to take a moment to stop and soak in; an uber-stylish lady rockin’ a breathtaking Marisa Regozo gown who does her own makeup and designs her own flowers. She’s downright fabulous. And her wedding? From the Bride… We met at Paul’s brother’s wedding in September 2004 and instantly hit it off, discovering that each of us considered “Die Hard” one of our favourite films. Although we knew each others’ siblings we had no idea each other existed until this meeting. But when friendship eventually turned into something more the timing was wrong (both recently having come out of long-term relationships) and we drifted apart. When we ran into each other at a BBQ three years later, we realised just how much we had missed each other and regretted our separation and the rest is history. Paul proposed on a beach on the East coast of Tasmania in November 2011 with a Princess diamond white gold ring he’d designed himself. He’d been on a ten day cycle tour of the East coast and had carried the ring in his pocket the entire way. He had asked for my Dad’s blessing a few weeks prior over a beer.
Summerlees was the first venue we looked at and we instantly fell in love with its Jane Austen-esque charms and sprawling gardens. The ballroom was perfect for the small reception of close friends and family (60 people). We are big wine, cheese and chocolate lovers, so we supplied our own wine, as well as a dessert buffet of our favourite King Island cheeses and Belle Fleur chocolates.
As a graphic designer I was very hands on with the styling. I was going for a rustic, vintage, romantic look. I designed our invitations in the style of vintage postcards, and handmade hessian table runners. We covered the ballroom rafters with ivy and scattered glass tea lights around the room. Paul’s mum is a quilter so we decided to have guests decorate individual quilt squares instead of signing a guest book, which will be sewn together for us to keep. I even did my own flowers. After an early morning trip to the Sydney Flower Markets I arranged bunches of ranunculas, lavender, sweet peas and babys breath in different sized vases and birdcages. We set up a camera and tripod infront of an antique frame for guests to pose for photos in the garden. I did my own makeup.
