From the Bride... For us, the wedding was all about celebrating the commitment that we were making to each other with our family. Having their love and support means so much to us and we wanted our families to be involved in as many aspects of the wedding as we could. Luckily, we have a large and talented family! My oldest sister, who has a Ph.D. in Biology and a deep love of flowers, did all the flowers. My brother was our officiant.  Kerem's sister, who has a great sense of humor, was our M.C. Another one of my sisters designed our program and menu and took care of making sure we were properly outfitted. Kerem wore his grandfather's watch, as a remembrance to him. Both of our mothers and each of our sisters gave a toast -- it really felt like we were wrapped in love.

The ceremony was held outside, overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Big Sur. My brother officiated for us, in a short, sweet, and meaningful ceremony. My father passed away in July and even though he wasn't able to be with us, we wanted to included him in the ceremony. We had a musical remembrance for him and our loved ones that weren't able to make it to the wedding and my sister read a Shakespeare sonnet from a book of sonnets he had given me when I was younger. And then the party started! Our band, You Were Great Last Night, kept the music going from the start of the cocktail hour and on into the night. We had planned on having dancing outside, but instead we had a huge downpour, so the party moved inside and next to roaring fires and the bar, and it was great. Ventana was so helpful in rearranging things last minute, we actually think it turned out better than we had planned. It really was a great party with close friends and family.

Our favorite moments of the day were the first look, when we got to focus on each other for a moment in the midst of all the excitement; my mom crying as she walked me down the aisle to "What a Wonderful World"; the sun breaking through and shining down, just as we did a remembrance for my dad; Kerem's mom surprising us with a Turkish tradition by tossing gold coins and flowers at us as we walked down the aisle as a married couple; the hilarious skit Kerem's sister and cousins did reenacting the history of our relationship; dancing together as husband and wife; the party!
