Sydney Wedding from Gemma Clarke Photography
It's a well-known fact: when modern and traditional elements combine, fabulous things happens. And in the case of this breathtaking Sydney affair, that fabulous is in the form of lush florals from Heiress Flowers, vibrant pops of yellow and a contemporary reception styled to perfection by Event Angels. In other words, it's the mix and mingling of a whole lot of pretty and you can see every last moment captured by Gemma Clarke in the full gallery.
From the Bride... In 2008 I found myself working in a bicycle shop in Sydney’s CBD having decided on a career from a lawyer to an engineer, which meant yet another university degree. It was here that I would come across a bicycle mechanic who only worked on a Saturday as the rest of his time was spent working towards a PhD in physics. This lovely bicycle mechanic offered his time to tutor me in maths and physics as he thought I may need some assistance as lawyers don’t do maths! I gladly accepted his offer and ever since we have been riding on a bicycle built for two! Five years to the day after we officially starting dating, we became husband and wife in what was the most amazing day surrounded by family and friends.
Our wedding day was organised in just six short months from the opposite side of the country as we had recently moved to Perth from Sydney. It was an easy decision to marry in Sydney as this is where all our friends and family are and this was never given a second thought. Sydney has a spectacular harbour and we wanted to utilise this to its fullest potential and what better way to do this than have a ferry ride around the harbour that would also double as transport from the ceremony, which is on one side of the harbour, to the reception which was on the other side of the harbour. Our guests loved the ferry and it gave us the opportunity to relax and take in the day that was our wedding day.
We wanted the style of our day to be simple and modern, yet elegant and timeless which stemmed from our personalities and our choice of reception location. The Wharf Restaurant @ Pier 2 was selected for their amazing food and wine as well as the location right in Sydney Harbour. The evening was filled with talking and laughing and was incredibly relaxed; at times maybe a little too relaxed! The restaurant was amazing and incredibly accommodating – Jacqui and Aaron did an amazing job and our guests loved the venue! We really could not have asked for a more amazing evening and the memories will live on for years to come.
Emma from Heiress Flowers did an amazing job of the flowers – I gasped with disbelief when I first saw the bouquets as they were everything I had hoped for and more. She took the flowers that Jake and I bought at the flower markets (which required a 4am wakeup call the day before the wedding!) and transferred them into something amazing. Emma, along with Event Angels, transformed my vision for the reception into reality – it really was so simple yet so elegant and modern, everything I had set out to achieve when planning the wedding.
The first look – how could I forget the first look?!?! Jake and I wanted to have photos before the formalities of the day which meant a first look. This was such an amazingly special moment between Jake and I, that words cannot describe and we wouldn’t have done it any other way. It most definitely eased the nerves and meant that we could also walk into the church together, arm-in-arm and relax and enjoy the ceremony, which after all, is what the whole day is really about.
We had a traditional Catholic ceremony at Jake’s old high school, St Aloysius College. This aspect of the day was very special to Jake, and I was incredibly honoured to be a part of this. It was a touching ceremony that reflected our personality’s right down to us walking in to the chapel together, arm in arm, preceded by our parents. We are incredibly lucky to have amazingly supportive parents and I now have a husband who adores me and I could not imagine life without him – he truly is amazing.
Looking back on the day, there is nothing that we would have changed, it really was the most perfect day of our lives that was captured beautifully by Gemma – from getting ready, through to our first look, the ceremony, the ferry ride (and the rainbows over the Harbour Bridge!), and finally the reception and our special moment on the Wharf under the lights of the Harbour Bridge. It really was perfect and the assistance and support of our family, friends and vendors helped make our day incredibly special and one Jake and I will never forget as we continue on our journey on a bicycle built for two!
