Rhode Island Wedding from Olivia Gird Photography

Goodness, after thousands (if not more) weddings I've had the pleasure of sharing with all the lovelies who visit SMP everyday, a few things amaze me. One, that not one of them are the same - and two, that after pouring over  all the pictures, I feel like I know the couples. Like I have thousands of best friends. Take this couple for instance. Their gorgeous Glen Manor House is the epitome of a traditional New England affair, but they weren't afraid to let their personalities peek through, giving us an oh so sweet look into their love. And thanks to all the beautiful images from Olivia Gird sitting pretty right here, in the full gallery of images, I feel like I've met yet another couple I couldn't adore more.

From the Bride... Growing up in Rhode Island by the water, I always knew that would be where I wanted to get married and luckily my Connecitcut native groom was happy to oblige. As we were researching locations my step-father was the one to actually recommend Glen Manor House in Portsmouth, RI to us as he had been to a wedding there before. It was the first venue Joe and I visited and from our first step on the grounds we knew it was the place for us and immediately cancelled all our other appointments for the day. From the historic New England feel of the manor, to the perfectly manicured grounds, to the location on the Sakonnet River, it was the perfect combination of everything we were looking for. From there, it was really the location that sparked many of my ideas for the elements and thematic I wanted for the wedding - a vintage and elegant feel brought to life with lots of lace, pale pink and neutral hues, and natural elements.

It was also very important to us that we also showcase our fun loving and goofy personalities since that is what ultimately made us fall in love with each other. In order to do so, we added little touches to the wedding like Joe's sneakers, my surprise camo garter (a nod to Joe's obsession with camo), the shutter shades and glow necklaces for the dance floor, a make your own brownie sundae bar, and finally serving Rhode Island's famous hot weiners at the end of the night. We really just wanted our friends and family to relax and have a great time and these things helped to put that spin on our special day.

The week leading up to the wedding was your typical unpredictable early fall weather in New England with lots of rain and somewhat chilly temperatures. But on the Friday of our wedding day, the weather finally turned around and was absolutely perfect! It was warm (but not too warm) without a cloud in the sky - We really could not have wished for a more perfect day. Everything went off without a hitch thanks to our wonderful vendors and we had the best evening celebrating with our family and friends. We still look back on the day and talk about how perfect it was - our only regret is that we wish it could have lasted longer!
