From the Bride...We had our wedding at my Dad's beach house in Blairgowrie, on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.  I spent a lot of time there in my childhood and it's a beautiful part of the world - wild ocean beaches with rock caves and crashing surf, meandering tracks through the ti tree forests and a kid-friendly bay beach with bathing boxes and sailing boats. We wanted our wedding to be relaxed, fun and more than anything, a party to remember.

We were lucky that my Dad's house has a big backyard with a marquee-friendly lawn, and right behind the property is a shady reserve with Moonah trees and native grasses.  We had initially thought of having the ceremony on the beach, but then decided it would be much easier for guests (and us) not to have to move between the ceremony and reception.  The reserve has a scrubby, natural beauty, and we didn't have to contend with sandflies or raging winds! Our ceremony was casual but really heartfelt.  I loved walking in on the arm of my brother and seeing all the people who are dear to us, and my beloved waiting and smiling at me from under the tree.  Nick's mother's close friend was the celebrant and did a wonderful job of creating a warm and sincere ceremony.  There were lots of laughs, a few tears and a lot of love in the reserve that day.

Nick looked gorgeous in a dark navy suit, and he bought light grey shirts and black braces for his handsome posse of groomsmen.  Two of my bridesmaids rented a house that had a lawn badminton court and lavender hedges, which was a great backdrop for some action shots of the bridal party between the ceremony and the reception. The speeches were a real highlight, our MCs were hilarious and our parents, best friends, Nick and I made speeches that were in turns bizarre, hilarious, touching and emotional.

Nick and I had been secretly practicing our surprise wedding dance with our specially selected dance crew for several weeks prior to the wedding. Sarah D was our teacher and she created an awesome group dance that was part hip-hop, part booty, part salsa.  After the speeches we announced we would be doing a bridal waltz.  My mum told me later that she was pretty surprised at that point, as she thought a bridal waltz was a bit cheesy and not very 'us'.  We started with just the two of us doing the moves to the final song in Dirty Dancing, and then our friends ran on to join us as the music cut into a crazy dance track.  Our hours of practice paid off and the crowd went wild for the surprise flash mob!  It was an awesome way to kick off the party and from there on in it was dancing and more dancing - on the grass, shoes off and well into the wee hours.
