Before I started writing this, I sat at my computer in awe of these images from Della Chen Photography. It took me a good twenty minutes to pick up my jaw and organize my thoughts into this one statement: oh my goodness, I love this. Before I geek out in total wedding-loving nerdy-ness, let me just say the floral design from Waterlily Pond is insanely beautiful. And the fact that the wedding was green, green, eco-green? Oh my. The whole thing is just so amazing.
From the floral designer… Our combined goal for this wedding was to generate no more than one bag of garbage. As a designer and florist, I focused on producing spectacular decor with re-usable plant materials such as tilensdia (air plants), succulents and dry branches. And unconventional materials – rattan caning and metal, complimented by a minimal amount of local flowers and branches. For place cards display and custom-made table numbers, I used reclaimed wood from the Army Corps of Engineers Delta Reconstruction project.
From the planner… Wedding planner, Corina Beczner of Vibrant Events, a Green Wedding Consultant, worked with Caroyn and Jacob who both share values of sustainability, to give this wedding an extremely light footprint on the planet. She made sure all vendors and staff knew ahead of time about the effort of this wedding to reduce waste and pollution, and encouraged full participation!
The wedding was catered by certified Green caterer, LRE Catering, who incorporated fresh local produce, with all of the food prepared from scratch by the LRE Catering chefs (eliminating packaging from pre-packaged foods), Filtered drinking water was brought in large reusable glass bottles eliminating individual plastic water bottles.
The couple used local wines from the venue Annadel Estate Winery, grown and bottled on the site of the wedding- eliminating shipping of the wine. The beer served at the bar was brewed locally, and brought in half kegs – allowing for reuse, and limiting recycling needs of glass bottles.
The clean-up area had recycling and composting bins clearly labeled.
LED lighting technology was incorporated by Impact Lighting, for low energy lighting throughout the event. Party rental companies got on board as well limiting the amount of packaging materials and helping to make this Green Wedding a success!
