Ontario Wedding from When He Found Her
Perfection. I think that sums up this backyard beauty to a tee. Nestled in the acres of the Bride's childhood home, this farm fête was DIY down to the very last detail, yet looks anything but. It's full of a stunning, understated style that will make it stand the test of time, and it's a style that ultimately makes me fall in love with every picture perfect image from When He Found Her. It's image after image of pure pretty, and you can see it all right here.
From the Bride...I always knew I wanted to have my wedding at my childhood home in Caledon, Ontario - It is the perfect wedding venue. When we got engaged, my parents were SO excited and supportive of having the wedding at home. Both my Mom and Dad did the vast majority of the wedding planning and DIY details which worked out well since my (now) husband Jeff and I live in Vancouver. We all wanted the wedding to be relaxed, rustic and 'handmade' event - we also wanted to be sure it was a great party! As the property is approximately 100 acres, guests were invited to "Bring Their Own Tent" to sleep in.
Both my family and Jeff's family pitched in during the weeks before the wedding and it was quite the sight to see - both families out on the property, getting their hands dirty and helping out wherever they could, and boy did it pay off! The morning of the wedding we awoke to torrential rain - Approximately 50mm of rain fell from 6am until approximately 12pm when the sky began to clear up. It was quite stressful since we had planned to have the ceremony outside and the reception under the tent. The sky began to clear and the bridal party was able to take pictures in advance of ceremony. Suddenly at approximately 3 pm (the wedding was scheduled for 3:30) dark clouds rolled in and a huge storm was upon us - sideways rain, high winds, dark skies - guests were huddled under the breezeway near the house and trees were down on the road in. I was upstairs, looking down at all of our guests trying to stay dry! We decided to delay the ceremony to see if it would clear - sure enough at 3:45, the skies parted and blue sky and warm sun shone down upon us as I walked down the aisle with my Dad, towards my fiancee - it was perfect.
Following the ceremony, guests were invited to indulge in a "welcome cocktail" served in a mason jar, either a white wine sangria or caesar. Guests were also invited to enjoy appetizers while taking part in "farm games" before dinner began, including a golf driving competition (whoever hit the target won a bottle of champagne), bocce ball, horse shoes and the crowd favourite - try out the potato cannon! Following a delicious dinner and the speeches, Jeff and I made our way to the dance floor - We danced to "Harvest Moon" played by a Neil Young impersonator (a surprise for the groom) while all of our guests gathered around us with sparklers - It was magical. After the impersonator played a few songs, the DJ came out and the dance floor was packed until the wee hours of the morning. At midnight, there was a perogie and candy bar and a bonfire was lit outside for guests to enjoy. It was a magical evening, a great party and an unforgettable celebration of our union.
