This couple? I love them. Truly, honestly, want to be their best friend – love them. After one peek at the lovely Bride’s description below and I realized why this wedding captured by Sunny 16 Photography looked so “them” – it was planned by them. Both of them, hand in hand making it a detail-filled love fest everything they both wanted, and that just warmed my heart. The result is one gorgeous (and fun) fête, and you can see it all here.
From the Bride… Geoff and I both have backgrounds in theater and design, so we had an advantage on the initial planning of our wedding in that we know how to create a beautiful setting and work cohesively with each other. Geoff, from the get-go, was not going to be one of those grooms who let me decide and do everything, and I never liked the idea that our wedding was “MY day”, it was OUR day and it was important to me that we make decisions-yes, even linen colors-together.
Geoff and I started off our wedding designing process by attempting to fit everything into a category, “Southern Romance” as both of us have roots in the south. When we were choosing fonts and cups, pictures and flowers, everything had to fit into this theme or it was out. We also had to remind ourselves that more than just a party that we happened to be getting married at, we wanted our wedding to be a celebration and demonstration of commitment and love joined by God and undone by no one. Ever.
Even though Geoff and I were making decisions completely together, there were two mainstays that I envisioned as a little girl that I could not let go. One, my dad was going to marry us (his dad is also an ordained minister, so we had both of them participate in the ceremony) and two, we got married outside. Both worked out magnificently, even though August in Texas is pretty brutal.
I had read a blog where the bride’s advice was to “let go of the details” but that just wasn’t going to work for us as a couple, who relishes in the tiny moments and details. On the big day, both of us knew about the little things, even if others didn’t know how much time we’d put into things. A lot of them didn’t work out so well, but I don’t think we cared. One of my details was along the aisle, I created jars with tiny LED lights in them like fireflies. Unfortunately it was too bright and they were lost, but I liked having them there.
As far as personal details, I was wearing my maternal grandmother’s necklace, my paternal grandmother’s cameo from her great grandmother and my great grandmother’s earrings as shoe clips. I had a lot of woman power with me.
I let my bridesmaids choose their own dresses, which turned out perfectly in the end but for a while was a pain in the butt because of all the options! My last tiny detail that also may have been lost to the crowd (but not to me) was each of my bridesmaid’s bouquets had a ribbon around them with their own quote from a favorite movie or book. Mine was from The Princess Bride.
