Vancouver Wedding from Gucio Photography + Petite Pearl Events
You know those weddings that just instantly warm your heart? Like, from the very first image you are completely smitten and your love only continues to grow and grow? Well, this is one of those weddings. A Vancouver gem that can only be described as awesome, all styled and planned to absolute perfection by Petite Pearl Events... or as I like to call it, exactly what happens when rustic and romantic join forces in a breathtaking outdoor oasis. See every beautiful moment captured by Gucio Photography right here.
From the Bride... We dated for about three years from third year law school (when we were abroad, me in South Africa, and Matt in New Zealand) with painfully glitchy internet conversations and questionable cell service as me and my bridesmaid Alexa and our buddy Duncan roadtripped Southern Africa. But, I think we both knew we had found what we were looking for by about month three over a shared bowl of cereal and "Spongebob Squarepants." Thankfully, we had the absolutely lovely Jessica Minnie of Petite Pearl Events. We met with her late on Mondays after work usually over a hot chocolate and a laptop and with only a slim idea of what we wanted and Jessica managed to produce every detail I never knew I always wanted.
My grandmother hand-embroidered the chuppah cover and with every stitch she put a bit of us into the chuppah, our names, the date of our marriage, the tree of life, and a star of david on the very top with my dad’s name in the center. My dad passed away when I was 19, and having my grandma embroider his name on the top of the chuppah was like having him looking down on me and Matt as we said our vows. It meant more than I can say. I cannot even begin to narrow them down. But glimpses through the day: At 6 am I was up on the grouse grind with me and Matt’s close friend, Duncan, hiking our way to the top. Duncan (who will not usually get out of bed before noon on the weekend) was a complete gem. Getting ready with my girls, seeing Michelle, Gill and Alexa’s hair up in curlers. These are girls who never dress up, and here they were out of sweatpants and in makeup, all for my big day. Love them. Getting picked up by my mom’s little brother, my awesome Uncle David, in his white convertible Ferrari to be taken to the farm (I love cars and I very much love my uncle, so it was a dream). And getting to the farm. I walked up to Matt from behind in a grove of birch and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and smiled like an idiot. It still makes me smile thinking about it.
The dinner was tented at UBC farm. There were raw material runners, wild flowers in mason jars, yellow and white balloons up in the top of the tent and a cupcake tower with handmade toppers! And our all-night dance party to follow was at the Frederick Wood Theatre, where Jay Henrickson (my mom’s fantastic partner) put together gorgeous dappled lighting and we hung our yellow and white pom poms from the rafters (made by hand by the cousins and Jessica!). The chuppah was constructed by our amazing Jay Henrickson. We all trekked out and got driftwood for the posts and Jay sunk the four posts into concrete in planters and hinged together the top crossbeams. To suspend the chuppah cover, Jay put together a metal frame and lowered the chuppah cover in the center of the posts, making a beautifully intimate space. We had an assembly line of cousins making pom poms for the afterparty the day before the wedding! The whole stage was covered in pom poms by the time we were through!
