Rhode Island Wedding from Lisa Rigby + Desiree Spinner Events

I get a little bit (ok a lotta bit) excited every time we feature a nautical wedding. That’s exactly what I want for my big day and I devour every last detail of inspiration from these pretties. Like the sweet lantern centerpieces, sand dollar place cards and the perfectly preppy combo of navy, pink + peach. I love it all. Thanks to Lisa Rigby and Desiree Spinner Events, I can spend my afternoon in the gallery pinning every single image.

From the Bride… Matt and I actually knew each other for years but ironically it all started when he invited me to a wedding that he was in. We had a blast and although we were both hesitant to start anything up in case it didn’t work out, he then invited me to a Vampire Weekend concert for our first official date. Almost three years later Matt completely surprised me and proposed in Venice, Italy. A year later we were getting married and celebrating with our most beloved family and friends.

We always wanted to make more of a weekend celebration for our wedding. Matt is from Connecticut and I had family coming from the Azores so we wanted to spend as much time as possible with our guests. We rented a stunning beach house in Jamestown for a week and had several close relatives and friends stay with us. The one thing we were truly nervous about was the weather and it was a warm, gorgeous September day so we were beyond lucky because you never know in New England! Everything went smoothly and we couldn’t have asked for a more amazing day.

I have a deep love for the beach and the outdoors so I was ecstatic to have a backyard reception. We started indoors for our ceremony at St. Francis of Assisi in Wakefield, Rhode Island and then brought the party back to Jamestown with 190 of our guests. We went with a beachy, nautical theme using navy, pinks, peaches, and white for our colors. We had several DIY touches including signs that my father and I made, the “Mr.” and “Mrs.” signs that hung on the backs of our chairs, being my favorite. I also made all of our place cards using sand dollars and Matt made the sandbox that they were all placed in.

The big loves in our lives are family, friends, food, and music so it was very important to us to have great food and music for our guests. Our food was catered by Blackstone Caterers and it was absolutely phenomenal. And although I hand-picked most of our playlist our DJ, Steve Gamlin, from Northstar Entertainment was fantastic. We danced the night away and keeping with tradition with Matt’s friends from Connecticut, we ended the night singing in a group hug to Billy Joel’s “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant.”

There are so many funny, beautiful, and sentimental moments of our wedding day that we’ll cherish for a lifetime. One of our favorites was Matt’s grandmother singing to us “Could I Have This Dance” which was so beautiful and fitting for our day.
