Rottnest Island Wedding from I Heart Weddings
From the Bride... I have had a list of favourite things in my head since I was a little girl. Not only do these things apply to a wedding but also to everyday life. Vintage aquamarine. Soft pink, full bloom roses. Hundreds and Thousands sprinkles on a cake. Family holidays at the beach. Old Hollywood glamour. These all smooshed together so beautifully on the day. Rottnest was our sneaky way of kidnapping all our friends and family for a weekend of fun, love and wedding shenanigans!
We served french fries and mini burgers. Pizza, pasta. Not only delicious but all vegetarian. Our cake was four tiers of vanilla sponge coated from top to bottom in hundreds and thousands of sprinkles. It was one of the best things ever!
We danced the night away by the pool, under lanterns and fairy lights. Friends and family gathered around for a rather silly dance off! My husband retired his famous dance move the The Worm! The wedding coordinator asked me at about 11pm should she lay down the sponge tiles so my husband doesn’t hurt himself on the bricked dance floor. So she did and Aaron did the worm.
Aaron and I wanted to keep the speeches light. So I wrote a little speech about how we met and what an amazing family I have. Then time to sing a song with a few of my performance buddies and my new husband. We sang ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’. It was very dramatic and quite hilarious!
We ordered 90 pairs of Havaiana thongs in pink and aqua blue. We were having a big beach party the following day at The Basin and thought the thongs would be the perfect gift for our guests. These also served us well at the reception. Off with the heels and on with the thongs!
About ten months before we had no clue where to have our wedding. We went to Rottnest for the weekend and after a day we were making calls to the Rottnest Lodge about the possibility of having our wedding there. We both love Rottnest. The quokkas (a marsupial unique to the island!), the no cars thing, the beach. Such a relaxing and stunningly beautiful backdrop for our wedding.
