From the Bride…I love that my dress was only $500! We wanted our wedding to reflect our relationship. We are best friends that love to have fun together, so it was important to us that our guests have fun. We ate great food, drank amazing drinks and set an atmosphere that reflected our passion for both. We also wanted it to be sweet and romantic and tried hard to balance that with the levity which makes our relationship so special. I did all the event design myself. I painted all the wood signs and a friend helped me with the seating chart and cocktail menu. I hand stamped the bags that held the favors and the programs. One of my favorite things was that my husband and I had shipped for all the vintage cocktail glassware. We scoured flea-markets and thrift stores and put together a really great collection. Voluspa Candles donated travel candles for favors which saved us money and allowed us to give our guests an awesome favor. I made the boutonnieres by hand and custom designed all the stationary. my mom and I cut all the table runners.
I spent a lot of time stressing about the details. While I still believe that the details make the day, keep in mind that not everyone will notice them. Spend more time on the things that will be seen by everyone. Also, don’t plan on doing anything the last couple days before your wedding. I tried to pack too many things in and wish I had spent more time relaxing and soaking up the moment. Oh and for anyone planning on having an outdoor or destination wedding: plan on things being about 1/3 more expensive than you think! Giving my parents their gift and seeing the tears in their eyes while the read the card. Waiting insides the house with my dad before we began to walk down the aisle and just having that moment to hold his arm and be silent. Our dog was our flower “girl” and she hesitated a little before walking down the aisle until my husband called her and she took off running at full speed- I cracked up. Hearing her snoring as she laid at my dad’s feet through the whole ceremony was just an added bonus.
I loved getting a moment to talk to my husband during our communion. My friend sang a song and we took communion with our backs to our guests and we had to talk about how we were feeling before the song ended. After our “first kiss” we did our secret handshake before walking back down the aisle- that was fun.
