San Francisco Mission Creek Park Wedding from Alfred & Emma Photography
From the Bride... Kelvin and I knew we were to get married in San Francisco, the city where we were born, the city we grew up with, and the city we still live in. We didn’t have a particular theme or any particular ideas in mind; to be honest we just kind of… winged it. We took whatever we saw and liked and just threw it all together.
I want to say our wedding was very natural, simple and light-hearted. We had a little bit of teary eyes in the beginning, but for the most part it was just fun. It was cold and foggy on the morning of, but once the ceremony came around, the sun came out and it was so pretty. We had the ceremony at Mission Creek Park Amphitheatre. The setting is definitely unique; I didn’t have an “aisle” to walk down and I was hiding in the security guard’s office while I was waiting! Still, super fun, those guys were so cool. The bridesmaids walked down with Jack Johnson’s song “Better Together” Hawaiian version, and I walked down with IZ’s song “Over the Rainbow." Our dog, Maruchan (yes, the cup-o-noodle brand) was our ring bearer.
We didn’t have a coordinator. Kelvin is an Industrial Designer, so whatever idea I had, he was able to make it come true. Each of our favors was done by hand and each was designed differently with different succulents. I hear all the time from brides-to-be that certain things have already been done and that’s why they don’t want to use it or do that. But I say everything has already been done, it’s a matter of making it your own and being proud of it.
We bought canvas sheets, hand painted each one and used them as picnic blankets for our ceremony since it was an outdoor wedding. We had friends over a few days prior and they helped us make caramel apples to serve after the ceremony. All the succulent designs were created by Kelvin’s talented cousin, Cyndee Ullom, from the bouquets to the table decors. The A and K wood succulent planters were handmade by Kelvin, and planted by us both. He made and planted the head table pieces and built the wood gift box as well. We doubled up our favors as centerpieces because they were so cute. We love the look of wood and was able to build these pieces using reclaimed fence wood from Kelvin’s aunt’s house.
