As Spring starts to show its pretty face, my mind is in a constant la la land dreaming of warm days that seem to last forever in places where the salt air is just the norm. So when this Nantucket beauty came across my desk, I was basically in heaven…and I set everything aside to allow myself to get lost in all the lovely worthy of any la la land. Planned to perfection by this beautiful Bride all the way from San Francisco with the help of the talents behind ACKtivities and Soiree Floral, it’s safe to say there is a lot to soak in from this pretty party. Thankfully with images this pretty by Cary Hazlegrove Photography, soaking it all in is an oh-so-fabulous way to spend a day. See them all here.
From the Bride… Our Wedding in Nantucket was orchestrated in San Francisco, inspired by many trips to the island, and our location of choice by virtue of its unique character. My husband’s family are multi-generational natives of the coastal town of Cohasset, Massachusetts and he has frequented the island as a summer getaway since childhood. The island bestowed such beauty, charm, and embrace that his younger brother and sister moved there as permanent residents after college. Through his fond memories of the past, and our experiences during recent annual trips, we decided that a summer wedding in Nantucket would be an ideal choice for us. The challenges for all that encounter wedding planning is to pull together the particular components that not only hold emotional and spiritual closeness, but for such a location to provide for a special experience for guests to share among themselves. We believed that Nantucket’s history, beaches, weather, and the array of activities would appeal to new and return visitors among our party.
Being a destination wedding, we wanted a custom invitation that excited our guests about the idea of going to Nantucket. Emily Kelly of U+U Design designed a specific piece for each event, incorporating both nautical elements and New England charm. Each piece was unique and special, from the invitation to the custom map of the island to the welcome bags with personalized tags and itineraries.
While a series of thunderstorms put a damper on our Madaket Beach lobster bake, Kimberly Reed of A Taste of Nantucket and her crew responded by recreating the event at their cozy dining room, averting a crisis and restoring the rehearsal dinner celebration.
We were challenged with envisioning the floral arrangements given the unique character of the ceremony and reception locations. Dawn Kelly of Soiree Floral knowing both locations so well, provided invaluable advice and suggestions which resulted in beautiful bouquets and floral arrangements that were simple and elegant and perfectly reflected our personalities.
While I did a lot of the planning early on, Aisling Glynn of ACKtivities took over a month before the wedding and handled every detail magnificently, ensuring that everything ran smoothly so that we were able to completely enjoy the day. And a special thank you to Cary Hazlegrove, who not only took the most stunning photographs that we will treasure forever, but who was there to remind me to breathe, and whose positive energy and cheerful personality made a perfect day even better.
