Salvage One Wedding from Jayne Weddings and Events

I surrender. That’s right, I officially surrender. Because this couple? They have completely out-styled me and then some (and then some more). As a Bride that initially never intended to have a big Chicago wedding, I am sure glad that she finally caved – because the day she said I do to her new (handsome) man at Salvage One might go down as one of the stylish days in SMP Illinois history. That day came to life via the visions of  Jayne Weddings and Events, and thanks to Pen Carlson we get to soak in every stylish moment right here.

From the Bride… I am not someone who ever pictured myself as a bride or even getting married.  All that changed when I met Dan, and when he asked me to marry him we started entertaining the idea of having a wedding.  Our wedding “plans” started out as a destination wedding in Kauai with just our families by our side.  They evolved from there into a big dinner for our family and friends to an actual wedding once we found Salvage One just a few blocks from our house.  We loved the venue and decided to bite the bullet and have a full on wedding here in Chicago.

“True Romance” has been my favorite romantic movie (albeit a non-traditional romance) since I was a teenager.  Our wedding theme started out as “wouldn’t that be cool to have a True Romance wedding?” and turned into us meeting Katie Sprenkle of Jayne Weddings and her falling as in love with the idea as we were.  From there the whole wedding began to unfold.  The table numbers were inspired by all the amazing outfits Alabama wore in the movie.  The custom sequin table runners were a nod to Clarence’s love of Elvis.  We had a projector showing kung fu movies and popcorn in movie theater cups was served as a late night snack.  Even our dessert buffet of pies was a nod to Alabama and Clarence’s first date.  We had comic blocks on all the lounge tables, as Clarence worked at a comic shop. Our cards box was a hot pink makeup case similar to the one Alabama carried the entire movie. The groom’s cufflinks were similar to the wedding rings from the movie. We had custom cocktail napkins made with Alabama’s handwritten note of “you’re so cool” on every one of them.

Our wedding was so much fun to plan because we just did everything our own way but worked it into the typical wedding elements.  Our wedding party walked down the aisle to Morrissey’s Break up the Family.  I walked down to the True Romance theme song, You’re So Cool by Hans Zimmer and Dan and I had our recessional to a Bad Brains song.  The bridesmaids wore leopard print heels.  Our french bulldog Toast was the ring bearer.  My yoga teacher and good friend did an incredible job as our officiant.  The whole event was both beautiful and playfully irreverent.

It’s hard to pick a single favorite element or part of the wedding planning.  The entire process was so much fun and a wonderful creative outlet.  I guess the best part would be seeing all the little projects or ideas you had on a whim come together and getting to share them with all your friends and family.  The whole thing was just so cool.

From Katie Jayne from Jayne Weddings and EventsWhen this Cass and Dan came to me with this idea I totally freaked! I watched the movie about ten times during the planning, each time finding another way to pull in something from the movie. We wanted it to have a theme but not be theme-y, we wanted it to still feel like a wedding. Have a crafty couple to work with was a dream. We were constantly trading ideas late into the night. This was one awesome wedding to work on!
