From the Bride… Mark and I began dating our sophomore year of high school. We didn’t know it at the time but, ten years later we would be engaged and two years after that, we would be married!
When I was a child, my family took a vacation to Cape Cod almost every summer. I grew up being known as the “summer baby” and always had a special place in my heart for the Cape and the ocean. Throughout our many years of dating, Mark and I came to fall in love with the Cape’s quaint New England charm and it’s simplicity. As we began to spend summer weekends and 4th of July’s on the Cape, we started to envision our own family vacations spent by the seaside. We knew early on that we wanted to have a Cape Cod wedding.
Having grown up together, the bond Mark and I share with each other has been strengthened and nurtured by the love of our amazing family and friends. We knew that they would all be an integral part of our wedding day and could not have envisioned beginning our lives together without them by our side. We were blessed to have our families and childhood friends celebrate our wedding on the Cape throughout the entire week of July 4th!
Mark and I fell in love with Wychmere Harbor Club (while it was under construction) and after one meeting with our Priest, knew we had found the perfect venues to celebrate our nuptials. Having a two-year engagement allowed us to take our time preparing for our day and gave us the opportunity to focus our attention to details (my favorite part of wedding planning). Mark and I spent many weekends driving out to the Cape from Boston getting to know the community, our Priest, wedding coordinator, photographer, DJ… even the local waiter at our favorite restaurant!
My childhood friend and I created the design for our invitations and our personalized “printables”. My mother wrote out all of the calligraphy for our envelopes along with each place card. This was something I had looked forward to since I was a little girl. My Godmother (who is also my aunt) arranged all of our bouquets and boutonnieres. The love that was poured into our wedding flowers was one of the most beautiful gifts we received! Mark and I decided to name our tables after different places, special moments and important people in our lives. We wrote little stories for each table to express the meaning behind each name. For one of our favors, we gave our guests hand-tied “Love Knot” bracelets which were tied around each place card and included a special note with the meaning of the knot on the back. My cousin hand-made my garter, which included antique buttons – a surprise to me at my bridal shower. Mark and I had a wedding bell blessed and worked with our priest to include this in our ceremony. The wedding bell represents Mark’s Scottish heritage as well as my Irish heritage and when rung, celebrates new beginnings and joyful times in our family, as well as the end to any discourse. Since we began dating when we were both 15, we found it only fitting to enter our reception dancing, singing, and laughing to Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”. We felt that all of these details helped shape and connect us to our day, truly making it our own.
When the day came for us to finally say, “I do”, we woke up to clear blue skies. Mark and I had decided to write each other letters and exchange gifts the morning of the wedding, as we did not see each other until I walked down the aisle. To my surprise, I opened a honeymoon itinerary to Paris, Capri, and London! As the day unfolded, everything fell into place. We ended our night with a beach bonfire complete with country music and s’mores as we continued to dance the night away.
We are thankful not only to each other, our friends, and our families, but also the amazing Cape Cod community. Our Priest, Reverend Brian McGurk performed the most beautiful marriage ceremony. Our wedding coordinator, Karen Rood from Wychmere Harbor Club ensured that no detail went unnoticed. I am still amazed at Armor and Martel’s ability to capture every single detail of our day exactly as we remember it. We were honored to have worked with such wonderful people who helped make our wedding day everything we envisioned and more.
Mark and I could not have asked for a more perfect way to start the rest of our lives together. Our wedding day was truly, a (teenage) dream come true!
