From the Bride… We planned a weekend wedding at Gedney Farm with 40 guests staying on site with us, all other guests were 20 minutes away in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. I have always wanted to get married in a barn and grew up outside of Boston, while David went to summer camp in Pittsfield, MA. We both wanted an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour to embrace the beauty of the Berkshires in the summer.
The morning and afternoon of the wedding guests gathered to play yard games and enjoy being together outside. The ceremony began at 5pm with my brother, a chemistry teacher, officiating the Christian/Jewish ceremony. The ceremony took place in a grassy knoll a short walk from the farm. Cocktails followed the reception outside the barn in a beautiful yard with an acoustical guitar player. Dinner and dancing took place in the barn.
All the flowers were intended to look like a summer meadow and were displayed in various containers, jars, and cheeseboxes. My bouquet consisted of white peonies wrapped in my late father’s necktie. Each table had a small guest book for words of congratulations and advice. The kids table overflowed with crayons, playdough, and custom coloring books featuring the bride and groom. The meal was seasonal and local.
