Birds of a Feather has ultimately become synonymous with crazy cool weddings; especially when the name Sarah Yates is tacked onto that phrase. She acquires the most awesome of clients and I’m convinced it’s because like attracts like. In other words, she’s the bees knees and matched up with a modern desert fete seems to bring out the best in her. From the black and white posh decor of The Viceroy to the most beautiful, light-filled desert portraits, the gallery is bursting at the seams with a whole slue of gorgeous photography. See it all right here.
From the Bride… When planning our wedding, the visual aspects were extra important to us since both Kevin and I are both graphic designers. We chose to have the wedding at the Viceroy because we thought it would be a perfect backdrop with the hills and canopy. We wanted everything to look clean, elegant and timeless. Together we designed and hand-made all the paper and decor elements – the invitations, menus, cupcake flags, favors, table numbers and escort cards. The table numbers were extra fun to make. I had them laser cut out of wood and then we hand-painted and glued them on standing frames found at Ikea. The best thing about our wedding was that our guests really got a sense of who we are as a couple, with everything from the visual details, to the music we chose, and the quirky little unplanned things that happened – it was all so ‘us’.
My favorite memories from that day are: The vows that Kevin wrote – they were amazing. They were straight from his heart and let me tell you, they were more touching than anything you’ve ever read in a book or heard from a movie. My sister’s MOH speech, which captured our story perfectly and made everyone laugh and cry at the same time. Being surrounded by our family and friends. The intimate escape into the desert with Sarah for a portrait session against the magical Palm Springs mountains. Our wedding coordinator Tracy who made the wedding run super smooth, taking care of everything so I could relax and enjoy the day free of any worries. The food, which everyone said was the best wedding food they’ve ever had, thanks to the Citron at the Viceroy. To this day our guests still talk about the grilled rib eye with wasabi mashed potatoes and sea bass over sweet corn! Our same-day videographer edit. Everyone loved when halfway through the dinner we got to see a video of the day from the beginning. Seeing it shot in such a cinematic way that captured the emotions made it so special and romantic! The after party was totally spontaneous. The two of us and our friends ended up at the Viceroy jacuzzi in our swimsuits with the remaining bottles of wine, and the night ended there perfectly.
