If you’ve ever had the chance to attend an event at The State Room in the evening, when you can see all the lights of Boston twinkle over the city, you know it’s nothing short of magic. It’s an evening that should be on every Bostonian’s must do list, and this lovely couple hosted just such a night for their guests. With the beyond talented lovelies at TRUE Event on board to make that gorgeous space even more gorgeous, and Bruce Plotkin Photography on board to capture all the magic of the evening, it’s safe to say this gallery is one stunning place to be. From the Bride… We knew that we wanted our wedding to be a big party with a lot of dancing. I grew up in the Boston area, and after exploring a number of venues, we decided that The State Room, with its huge space and amazing views of Boston Harbor, would be the perfect backdrop for us to dance the night away. We also knew that we wanted entertainment that was going to blow our guests away and keep them on the dance floor, so quickly booked Beantown Band, arguably one of the best bands in the Northeast.
Despite having a city wedding in a relatively modern venue, we wanted to incorporate a lot of texture and rustic elements into the décor to reflect our love of the outdoors. Deciding on our various vendors who could help make that a reality was perhaps the most fun part of the wedding, and we definitely ended up with a dream team. Having seen her in action at my best friend’s wedding a year earlier, I quickly enlisted the help of Sarah True of TRUE Event. Sarah was such an important part of the planning process, and she and her second in command, Caitlin, made me feel completely at ease on the day of. Semia Dunne of Flowers by Semia was unbelievable to work with – from our first meeting, she instantly understood my vision and incorporated so many lovely hues, textures and dimension into our floral arrangements and décor. And the wonderful team at Paper Moss worked with our calligrapher, Kristen Henderson, to create a timeless and whimsical letterpress invitation suite with painted gold edges. It perfectly set the tone for our big day!
Event planning is a hidden passion of mine and I wanted to be very hands-on throughout the design process, which included a number of DIY projects with the help of various wedding blogs and a slew of vendors from Etsy. Perhaps my favorite project was creating the concept for our escort card table, in which our tea-stained cards were displayed on vintage tin ceiling tiles using magnets made from antique filaments. I was speechless when I saw the final product!
On December 1, 2012, we awoke to find a soft snow dusting the streets of Boston – a perfect backdrop for our big day! I couldn’t have been calmer and had so much fun getting ready with my bridesmaids with Lindsay Griffin taking care of hair and Zoe Markos doing our makeup. Patrick and I did a “first look” before the ceremony, which I would highly recommend – not only do you get to spend your first few minutes with just each other, soaking in the moment, but you also get all your pictures out of the way and get to enjoy your cocktail hour! Our ceremony, which occurred right at sunset, was short but personal and the hundreds of candles that Semia flooded down the aisle created the perfect intimate ambiance. When the festivities started, both of us remarked at how unbelievable it was for us to exchange vows amongst so many of our family and friends. With Beantown providing the entertainment, it was hard for anyone to leave the dance floor, and the whole evening ran perfectly with the help of not only Sarah and Caitlin, but also the fabulous Carrie Scott and her team at The State Room. And everything was captured perfectly by Bruce Plotkin Photography so that we will remember the celebration forever! Our wedding day was everything we could have hoped for, and we’re so thankful for the important people who helped make it possible.
