Fear not lovelies. With President’s Day in full swing and a little R&R in your near future, we thought what better accompaniment than a gorgeous wedding? And this wedding in particular from Marta Locklear Photography is sure to fit the bill. Farm fences mixed with hues of pink are accented with the prettiest of florals from the talented H.Bloom. You will melt at the story of the bride’s father making each farm table for his baby girl, and all the desserts that were baked with love by the bride’s mama from her very own bake shop, Libby & Me. So since you have some extra time today, why don’t you get lost in the gallery for a while, you’ll be oh so glad you did!
When my family moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Virginia 3 years ago, one of my Mom’s greatest requirement was finding a home on a piece of land that I could get married on. My parents have a barn and board horses, so it felt fitting to incorporate them into our design. I wanted everything to feel very rustic romantic. Intimate, but not stuffy. I chose a neutral pallet and accented it with black, gold, peach and even some pink here and there. I really wanted all of the colors to accent the green in the scenery but not overpower it. My bridesmaids (all 12 of them!) were just asked to wear floor length neutral gowns and all the groomsmen were asked to wear slim cut black suits.
Having authentic farm tables at my wedding was a non-negotiable for me, but renting them was going to cost a fortune, so I begged my Dad to figure out a way to build them. He built me 15 farm tables on his own, stained them endless times, weatherproofed them and made them perfect. This was easily the best part of our decor. This was no small undertaking and they were absolutely perfect. (Sidenote: they’re actually for sale for an unbelievable price if you’re interested!) My Mom owns a bakery called Libby & Me, and I had asked her to make all of the baked goods. She’s famous for her cupcakes, so we had Boston Cream Pie, Red Velvet Cheesecake, S’mores and Chocolate Chip Cheesecake cupcakes in lieu of a traditional cake. She also made most of the appetizers and the rest of the desserts. How she found the time I will never know, but it made the world of difference to us! My something new was my veil that was designed for me by the NY based designer Catherine Blickenstaff, who also happens to be one of my best friends and bridesmaids. There was something so special for me knowing that she picked out the fabric and delicately hand sewed it just for me on that day. It was a truly special moment for me and for our friendship.
Although it ended up raining, and without a tent, soaking everyone, what ensued was the GREATEST dance party of all time. My husband is a musician, so the DJ and the music was most important to him. He spent hours crafting a playlist and finding the DJ and I can absolutely say that he made the right choices with both. Imagine dancing in the pouring rain with the people you love the most for 3 hours! We were living out a music video! Overall, our day was perfect. We chose details, like the colors, the food and the location, that felt like a tribute to our relationship. We wanted something beautiful, and we surrounded the event with the natural beauty of Virginia, the beauty of our friends and family and the beauty of dancing with your best friends in the rain. We got so much more than the original rustic romantic theme we were hoping for.
