I am giddy with wedding nerdiness to set this scene for you. Think two bookworms who fell in love while studying forestry, tying the knot surrounded by their favorite New England autumn leaves. Perfection, no? These botany buffs searched far and wide for rare florals of the season, and even named each table after the genuses of their favorite trees. And on top of that, Kate Preftakes Photography‘s use of light is nothing short of genius. I cannot drink in enough of these airy photographs over in the gallery that make this day simply come alive…dig in lovelies.

Ingrid and John had a warm fall day for their wedding at a private home in Dublin, NH. They incorporated their joint love of binomial nomenclature into their table settings and named each table after a tree. They used rosemary throughout the wedding as it is a symbol of remembrance. Ingrid’s mother is an incredible caterer and with the help of her staff managed to cater and attend the wedding! Brick Kiln Farm (also a friend of the family) created the most gorgeous floral arrangements.
From the Bride… We decided early on that a fall wedding was ideal. We were really trying to accentuate the fall season (even if most of the leaves were gone!), without the typical kitschy accents that can sometimes overwhelm events this time of year. We specifically said NO to pumpkins, cornstalks, etc… and opted for more elegant flowers that were still very unique and seasonal. Though the wedding was outside and partially in a barn, we were still shooting for a balance between elegance and country, and wanted it to focus on family and our community of friends. Asking John’s brother, Michael to marry us, was really an important piece. We trusted that he would do a great job with the ceremony, and he met all of our expectations and more! It was very special to have two of my closest friends also be a part of the ceremony, as well as keeping the wedding party siblings-only.
As we both studied forestry in college, the tables were named after Genuses of some of our favorite trees. We also know a fair amount of botany-buffs, so we wanted our centerpieces to not only show this country elegance, but also contain interesting and hard-to-find flowers. Ultimately, we really just wanted everyone to have fun! Hushband played my sister’s wedding and another friend of ours, so we knew they were up for the challenge. Having my mom as my caterer had its challenges, but also rewards (ie. oyster bar!) We really wanted to avoid the whole cake cutting thing, and so opted for seasonal pies!
