Call me a dork, but I get totally excited when I’m introduced to new wedding venues, especially ones right in my neck of the woods. This cute-as-can-be couple knew as soon as they saw all that pretty Boston Ivy, that this would be the place they would say I Do. Brea McDonald Photography captured all the springtime prettiness and you can see it all right here in the full gallery!

From the Bride… Our overall design concept was largely inspired by a chance drive-by of what would become our venue. We’d spent ages looking for a reception venue that didn’t feel cookie-cutter; something with quiet elegance and understated grandeur outside of Boston so our out-of-state family wouldn’t have any trouble celebrating with us. Once we saw the social club’s black shutters and its wrought iron terrace covered in thick Boston ivy, we knew we’d found something really special. We didn’t have a color palette until this point, but something about the way the black shutters played off the bright, springy green of the lawn and all that lush ivy just completely inspired the design concept. Spring has always been my favorite season, so nature and the delicate lushness and greens of spring (particularly in the leaves, trees, and grass) were major influences, in addition to the romantic, dreamy illustrations of the book Madeline, and Paris. Black and white stripe is a signature accent favorite of mine that really worked with all the springy greens and soft pinks and creams, so we relied on this in very small doses for things like our cookie favors, our sweetheart table banner swag and the little ivy topiaries we placed on the mantels of the various reception venue rooms.
Our first look was a really emotional moment for us and I think the moments just after the final blessing, when our wonderful officiant Father Tony leaned in close when we both nervously whispered “What do we do next?!” and calmly smiled and told us, “Take as long as you want, then just turn around, and it’s all yours!”
I think it was the small moments alone together on the path under the trees just walking back and forth laughing, or sneaking into the ballroom by ourselves during the cocktail hour, then during dinner to just take a peek at everything else, too. Seeing all the details we’d worked so hard to pull together, that we loved best. Our wedding day was the culmination of months of research and planning and preparing and not only was it visually everything we dreamed of, but we shared a delicious, beautiful first meal as husband and wife with all of our closest loved ones. It was perfect.
