If you happen to mention Birds of a Feather around SMP HQ, you enviably will hear a few squeals following. We are just a tad bit obsessed with the talented team behind that name, and really can you blame us? Because just about everything (ok, actually everything) they touch turns into wedding, fashion or home gold. They are basically a triple threat of fabulous, constantly producing drool-worthy images for us to pin, favorite and aspire to. And this wedding? It perfectly proves my point. It meets at the intersection of pull-at-your-heart strings pretty and seriously heart warming…which just so happens to be our favorite place to be. See it all here.
From the Bride… The wedding was held on a citrus, avocado, and vegetable farm that my husband Rob’s family has farmed since the late 1800s. His parents were married on the same ranch 34 years ago. We both come from ranching families but also love city life so we were going for a rustic/elegant feel, while also incorporating tradition from our families – we had items at the ceremony to remember each of our grandparents who had passed away. For instance, my maternal grandmother left me a hay-penny from Wales that I had taped in my shoe for good luck.
Our officiate was a California judge, whom Robert’s father introduced to her husband, so we sort of came full circle. Our favorite part about the ceremony was reading our vows that we had written to each other, and then facing the crowd, so that we could look out at everyone who has meant so much to us and came to support us. One other moment stands out: we both love chocolate cake, but don’t like the fondant that comes with traditional wedding cakes. Our plan was to grab a small cake from a local bakery to share. However, Rob surprised me and baked our wedding cake himself. He gave it to me before the ceremony, displayed on a beautiful cake platter I had really wanted off of our registry, and promised to bake me a chocolate cake every year on our anniversary!
