Aspen Wedding from Bluebird Productions
Here at SMP, we see a lot of weddings, but I'm not sure if I have ever wanted to jump inside one quite as much as I do for this wedding by Robin Proctor Photography. The second I hear that this little number started with hot cocoa and toppings bar with all the fixin's, I knew this was going to be so, so good and full of bliss. A wintry wonderland of all things Aspen and beautiful, nay, impeccable details from the Bride herself of Bluebird Productions in an amazing Vera Wang gown from Anna Bé, this wedding is breathtaking to say the least. From the Bride... My wedding day was the most amazing day. I know every bride says that, but it truly was. As a wedding planner and a bride, it was amazing to see all of my work and plans come to fruition. Working with vendors who are both colleagues and friends was beyond amazing. Due to some family "complications" (an engaged brother and sister) both planning 2012 weddings, we had a very short time to plan the wedding: 4.5 months. We wanted to find the perfect venue – one that I, as a planner, didn’t know inside out, one that could accommodate our guest list, one that showed off the beauty of Aspen. We found it: the home of a friend of ours and the first party that Jeff and I went to together when we first started dating.
With a short time to plan, my business partner and I went full bore ahead into the details. Being environmentally-friendly is very important to me. Thus working with a caterer that is conscious of this, yet still provides impeccable food and service was of high priority. My brother owns a cured meat, cheese and wine shop in Boulder. Incorporating this into our evening was a must. He helped us source local Colorado liquor and beer. Another must was fabulous music that would suit everyone’s taste. Our venue was a very contemporary, clean and crisp home. This dictated the style and design of my décor. I chose white, clear, charcoal gray and hints of green (an ode to the woods) as my colors. I wanted all of the flowers to be white as an ode to winter and the modern feel. I had my bridesmaids dressed in custom-made dresses created by a local designer called GRAY Aspen. The dresses are actually called the Aspen dress. The girls wore Sorel snow boots, and in lieu of flowers, I had them carry faux fur muffs. When the shrug I wore – Jeff’s great-grandmother's – became a reality, I knew (faux) fur for the bridesmaids would be amazing!
Our guests were greeted at our venue with a cup of hot chocolate and led to the hot cocoa toppings bar. They were also handed a blanket with our wedding date sewn on it and were escorted outside to the ceremony. Jeff is Jewish, and honoring his religious upbringing led us to a fabulous and memorable ceremony that had our parents drinking (chugging!) wine and dancing in the ceremony. The snow even began to fall, on cue, as I began to walk down the aisle. Zara, our 1-year-old avalanche search and rescue puppy, greeted us as we walked back up the aisle. I think she enjoyed the cocktail hour just as much as all of the guests! Our reception was full of toasts. My sister serenaded us, Jeff’s aunt surprised us with handmade truffles for each table come dessert time, and we danced the night away to Bobby Yang. The night ended with late-night snacks and servers with cigarette girl-style boxes filled with ice cream sandwiches, milk shakes and mini sliders. Unbeknownst to us, we had the perfect snowy getaway: a fire truck with sirens blazing (Jeff is a fire captain for the Snowmass Fire Department). As a planner, my greatest fear for my wedding was that I would not be able to “check out” and enjoy my wedding. I was afraid I would be in event mode and super-aware of what was going on around me. I hired the best team that I could, and I hired a fabulous day-of coordinator and her team to know that they would handle all of the details. I loved every moment of my wedding and was able to enjoy the entire day without being aware of all of the inner workings of the event. It was sheer perfection.
