Home. It’s the land of memories and moments, of history and heart. A collection of life’s little details, making it the absolutely perfect place to create one of the most memorable moments of them all – your wedding. And when your Wisconsin childhood home just happens to be completely adorable like this Bride’s? Well the lovelies, hosting such fête there is a no brainer. It makes for a backyard beauty complete with the most heart warming details captured by Heather Cook Elliott, and it’s all waiting for you right here.
From Heather Cook Elliott Photography… Shauna & Matt live in Astoria where they are both in the arts, but she’s from Wisconsin and he’s from California. Home for them is wherever one another is, but still the idea of joining their families on the porch of her father’s farm house back in Wisconsin just felt too right to ignore. They searched for a fall date and soon realized that a rather rare event would occur on the Friday of Labor Day – a full moon reminiscent of the full moon her parents were married under, but even better – a Blue Moon, a type of full moon that only happens every two or three years.
And so it was – they gathered with about 40 close friends and family and tied the knot on the back porch while Daisy the dog and Jimmy the cat looked on, too. Guests were greeted with little delights on the property like an antique car, picturesque tractors and barns (some still used,) lemonade and tea. The smells of an amazing dinner tempted everyone as it was being cooked in the farm house kitchen and an amazing assortment of fresh flowers from the property gardens decorated the long tables set for dinner with vintage plates and mix and match silver.
Once darkness fell the twinkle lights strung between apple trees glowed and cast a soft light on Shauna & Matt swaying under the trees for their first dances and toasts. The Blue Moon rose and everyone smiled. I must write that everything about Shauna & Matt’s day was intimate – a wedding party of 2, wedding rings literally forged by the bride & groom themselves, a home cooked meal, a dessert buffet of home made pies and tortes, and some of the most lovely hand stamped invitations I’ve ever seen. They mixed bespoke with heirloom, chic with down home and they did it all for each other.
