Los Gatos Ranch Wedding from Emily Scannell Photography

Emily Scannell can do no wrong in my eyes. With images like these, paired with a rustic wedding like this, it’s all a match made in heaven. One that takes the green fields of Radonich Ranch to a whole new level of pretty. It’s layers of peach accents, home baked pies and the like and topped off with a lovely film by ZoMei Video Productions. Now that is how we finish off a great line-up of weddings. From the Bride… My husband and I met at college in San Diego when we were both 19 through my best friend (and future maid of honor) and quickly went from friends to more. After four years of dating, we both began attending the same graduate school, and on March 5th 2011 (my birthday) David popped the question. In his true fashion, the proposal was over-the-top and truly romantic with a day full of surprises. The proposal took place on Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, overlooking the ocean, and beneath the tree where we spent many days talking and planning our lives out in college. After I said yes, we headed off to a surprise party with our closest friends and family.

We quickly began planning our wedding for June 2nd 2012. We knew that we wanted a beautiful, romantic, and hand-made event. Having grown up in Northern California, and with most my family living there, we felt that sticking with tradition would be best for the location of our wedding. Both being nature lovers, we quickly fell in love with Radonich Ranch in the Los Gatos Mountains. After we met our lovely coordinator, Marky Carr, and saw the natural, rustic beauty of the ranch we were sold. What made it even more special was that the ranch was right down the street from where my parents were married on my grandparent’s ranch over 29 years earlier.

We drew our inspiration for our peach theme from the ranch being a former fruit-packing orchard, the color palette of the wedding, and of course David’s nickname for me “little peach.” Everything was hand-crafted from the design of our stationary (peach hand-painted by me), to the moss covered letters, and the hand-painted center-piece urns and votives. We were blessed to have many creative and talented family members and friends who donated their time and effort to help create all of the décor. My wonderful “Nanny and Poppy” (grandparents) assembled our peach jam gifts, and my cousin Lauren of Luxxe Event Co. added details such as our table numbers and bride and groom chair décor. We wanted our event to feel like a home-style wedding, so we were sure to include bocce ball, horse shoes, and a home-made photo-booth, and to create an intimate feeling by including benches and areas for people to sit and chat.

Our menu was very important to us, and lucky for us Marky Carr, also our caterer, was able to create an organic, locally grown menu that represented our love of California cuisine. We included a peach bellini as our signature drink to tie the theme together. One of our favorite moments of the day was seeing our cake. We were blown away at how Jen’s Cakes of Los Gatos had taken our idea of a fondant peach cake-topper and created such a beautiful, adorable work of art. The meal was truly completed, however, by the yummy pies from Gizdich Ranch especially requested by my husband as his “groom’s cake.” Our day turned out beautifully, and we loved seeing all of our friends and family enjoying each other and the venue. It was truly the most perfect day to start out our lives together.
