There’s tulle and then there’s Vera Wang tulle. The whisper of a fabric so romantic and delicate that I have to stop everything and admire its many layers of wonderfulness. And when that tulle happens to live in a wedding on the beautiful island of Nantucket filled with Soiree Floral’s most gorgeous of flowers and twobirds Bridesmaid dresses? Oh, it’s just too much pretty to handle and you can see it all from Katie Kaizer Photography in the gallery right here.

From the Bride… Jordan and I met in June five summers ago when I visited New York City to look for an apartment. We were introduced to each other by mutual friends, however our time together was short lived, as I was due to leave for my summer position as a music camp counselor, while Jordan had an internship in Los Angeles at a talent agency. Despite our immediate distance, we began to cultivate a close friendship through the pay phone in my camp’s barn. In many ways, the distance helped us get to know each other even better. There was no pressure that summer, and there was a certain romanticism involved in getting to know Jordan with an entire country between us. The months quickly passed, and that fall, we both moved to New York City and formally began dating.
Five years later, I came home from a late afternoon lunch with my best friend and manager. Being a violinist, it’s a rare occasion that I’m not working on a Friday or Saturday evening, but that night Jordan and I had decided to go out for a night on the town! However, when I arrived home Jordan seemed cranky and out of touch. It was on the fifth time that I asked him what was wrong when he asked me to sit down on the couch. My heart started to beat really fast, and I, of course, was thinking the worst. All of a sudden, he took out a brown leather box, and inside was a beautiful ring. Right there, he asked me to marry him. I was shocked to say the least. I couldn’t even respond before I called my parents who happened to be way out on Great Point, the furthest point out on Nantucket Island. Cell service was less than ideal but I did manage to get across that I was engaged.
When we decided to get married, many of our friends and family asked, “Why Nantucket?! It’s notoriously difficult to get to and while having a wedding on an island is certainly beautiful, it brings a whole new set of complications to the table.” Despite all of the rationale that Nantucket is no place for a large wedding, the island has always held a special place in my heart and retained a certain magic. My family has been summer residents for four generations, and I have a distinct memory of myself when I was seven years old as the flower girl in a family friend’s wedding. The ceremony was held at the Siasconset Chapel and the reception was at Sankaty Head Golf Club. It was no surprise that at a young age, I declared to family and friends that I would eventually get married on Nantucket. A year after dating Jordan, I brought him to Nantucket for the first time. He instantly fell in love with the island and agreed that despite certain reservations, we absolutely had to get married there. We have countless memories of wonderful beach days, nights out and about in town and a million delicious meals at Le Languedoc and Claudettes.
Our wedding weekend arrived quickly. What you can’t tell from the pictures was that a serious storm threatened our wedding, causing many flight cancellations and forcing countless guests to get in their cars and drive from New York to Hyannis before embarking on the two hour slow ferry ride from Hyannis to Nantucket. However, at about noon on our wedding day, the weather finally cleared and the sun came out. The day turned out to be absolutely beautiful! Our wedding theme was nautical chic, with pink and navy as our color scheme. Of course we incorporated the pink, as that is the color of my violin. Nautical stripes adorned the stationery to bring that little bit of preppiness that is so iconic of the island.
