I have a super embarrassing, yet nonetheless real crush on this couple. His suspenders and glasses, her effortlessly chic style pulled together with apparent ease (that fab gown is a thrift store find – not even kidding), the way they wholeheartedly kiss each other… they are hands down the sweetest couple. Ever. With Jenny Moloney Photography behind the camera, the day was captured in utter perfection – just the way I can only imagine it went down in real time. Blake and I had two big goals for our wedding: to honor each other and our guests and to throw a really, really memorable party. Our wedding day was all of all of that and more and I really can’t take any credit for it. Blake and I had an army of friends and family that worked tirelessly the week of and months before. Blake is included in this wonderful group – I had little time since starting school and he took the reigns as wedding planner.
We wanted the ceremony to include traditions that were important to us and to honor the words read and people reading them. Blake and I grew up on opposite ends of the country and I remember thinking how amazing it was that we had people from all over the world – and all parts of our histories – in that one church.
Getting married in Maine made the weekend a destination wedding for many people, so we made an effort to extend a Saturday wedding into a weekend-long celebration. There was a lobster bake on Thursday night, drinks on Friday after dinner, and on Sunday morning, Blake’s sister orchestrated a blueberry pancake breakfast. I had been warned that the wedding day is a blur of short greetings and bites of dinner, so we did what we could to avoid that (also, our caterer was amazing and I didn’t want to miss the pulled pork); we made the day as long as we possibly could without torturing our guests. The ceremony started early and school buses shuttled everyone to the farm. After dinner and (surprise) fireworks, our dear friend Caitlin sang our first dance song. After that, we danced until we all had to leave. And everyone was dancing, thanks to the incredible Tumbling Bones. I think some of my favorite wedding afterthoughts were from the many people who planned on taking the earliest bus home but ended up staying until the last minute.
