Canberra Wedding from Caroline McCredie

I'm a true believer that balloons have the power to make any day extra special - especially when they are uber-giant, uber-vibrant and of the pink, blue and red variety.  So, when this sweet, sweet Canberra wedding came our way, it was like a big ol' dose of colorful L.O.V.E.  It's a gorgeous outdoor ceremony meets a stylish reception meets a cute as can be duo that really knows a thing or two about being crafty - and it was all captured in wonderful images by Caroline McCredie.  See them all in the full gallery.

From the Bride.... My sister worked with Simon’s (the groom) sister in-law. So on a night out with our respective friends, Simon and I found ourselves suddenly alone — everyone else had disappeared. It was a sneaky set-up, but we really hit it off. A few days later, we were meant to have our first proper date, but I got sick and had to cancel. Simon thought I was trying to put him off – luckily, his people spoke to my people, and that night, Simon turned up without notice at my place with a home cooked meal to nurse me back to good health (mind you my hair was a mess and I was in those PJs you reserve for when you’re sick – not the best look). Somehow he saw past that, and we've been together ever since.

As soon as we were engaged, we talked about the kind of wedding we wanted – we love color, good food and wine and, most of all, we wanted people to have fun. We wanted to have a spring wedding and incorporate personal touches to make it uniquely us. Poor Simon had fight his way through our dining room as it filled with the 50 paper pom poms I made to construct our wedding arch. I also did all the flowers for the wedding, and Simon made a beautiful wedding cake and all the canapés for our guests. Family was a big part of the day for me. My mum was the wedding celebrant, my dad gave me away, my twin sister was my maid of honor and our dog, Sweep, was a page dog (he also made it onto the cake topper!).

Simon and I exchanged personal vows, which included heartfelt commitments as well as the things that make us "us" — to keep cold noses warm, dance in the kitchen while we cook, always give him the marshmallows off my hot chocolates and he’d always be my I.T support! Our bridal party was a little non-traditional. I had a bridesmaid as well as one brides-man, and the groom had groomsmen as well as one grooms-gal. To us it was important to have the people who supported us and our relationship stand with us on the day, regardless of gender. We held the ceremony at Commonwealth Park in an amphitheater. It is the kind of space you walk past and don’t think too much of, but when you sit on the steps, you realize what a great backdrop it has in the lake and park. It was also a different take on an outdoor ceremony.

Our reception venue, Watersedge, is a fine dining restaurant. It offered an intimate setting on the edge of the lake. We had floor-to-ceiling windows behind the bridal table, which gave our guests a beautiful view of the sun setting as dinner was served. The food was amazing, the speeches were heartfelt and funny, and the night ended with a paper lantern being released into the night sky and our guests creating a farewell arch in sparklers. We were really blessed to have our photographer, Caroline McCredie. She actually took the photos for my sister’s wedding, and I loved her style instantly. Her ability to capture the candid moments of the day really put us at ease. The other important vendor was Lady B Paperie, who designed all our wedding stationery. This introduced the spring theme and from invites to name cards, and it really set the tone of our "all you need is love" wedding.
