Portsmouth Wedding from Kate McElwee Photography

Pink and yellow may just be the most amazing color combination I’ve seen all year. It’s a little bit preppy, a little bit cheery, and a whole lotta fabulous, especially when the rest of this Portsmouth wedding (including the fab blooms from Sayles Livingston Design) is brought into the equation. The lovely Kate McElwee Photography captured all the love and laughter and has given us a reason to fall in love today – right here, in the full image gallery.

Anel and I are so grateful to all of the incredible people who came together not only to make our wedding day the best day of our lives, but also to love and support us in our first year of marriage. Our family and friends have expressed so many kind words and offered up wonderfully loving advice.

Throughout the wedding planning process, everyone kept reminding me that it was more important to focus on the marriage, not the wedding. I am a perfectionist and have been, like most women, dreaming of my wedding since I was a little girl. So I took their advice and love my husband unconditionally every day, but I also made sure to throw the best darn wedding I’ve ever seen!

The day was very emotional for me, but at the same time I felt completely calm and content from the moment I woke up. I started my day with yoga in my hotel room, and kept that vibe going until we drove off in a 1950s Rolls Royle.

Glen Manor House and the perfect weather made for a stunning backdrop for the big day. As I walked down the aisle, I saw only Anel with tunnel vision. Throughout the hilarious and emotional ceremony, it was as if we were in our own little world and everyone that we know and love was orbiting around us. Our guests felt the love and almost every single person was crying by the time we were pronounced husband and wife!

The vibe was exactly what I had hoped for. Bright pink and yellow flowers, guests laughing and smiling, plenty of wine and whiskey, delicious food, and the best salted caramel cake I’ve ever had. Our guests left with memories of doing the limbo and cutting a rug, but also of looking out over the moonlit ocean and couples cuddling on Adirondack chairs by the water.

The party, of course, was a blur but I remember it as all smiles and dancing and hugging and kissing. I made sure to take time to be with my new husband. It’s so easy to get caught up in speaking to each and every guest and pleasing all of your family members. But I reminded myself several times that it was really just about me and him. A new couple and the start of a new family.
