Low country is a breeding ground for the most romantic weddings, just ask Blake and Ryan. It has the perfect mix of Southern sensibilities with a nod to all that is gorgeous about a good ol’ classic wedding. And Spencer Special Events just might be the reigning Queen of crafting all that goodness into one beautiful affair; even with a storm a brewin. From the Bride… Romantic southern charm was the feel we envisioned for our wedding day on July, 27, 2012 in Hilton Head Island, SC. Our wedding was a destination wedding, where 62 of our closest family and friends joined us in celebration of our love for each other after our 9 1/2 year courtship. The intimate ceremony, held on the legendary 18th lawn of Harbour Town Golf Links with the famous red and white striped lighthouse provided breathtaking views as a storm rolled in across the Calibogue Sound, was very meaningful with a sand ceremony, a hand ceremony and traditional vows filled with meaning that we will preserve for the rest of our lives. The storm caused the temperature to drop from 100 to 83 degrees with a delightful breeze at the start of the ceremony, as thunder and lighting were off in the distance and the sound of seagulls squawking surrounded us.
We envisioned a laid back atmosphere for our celebration following the wedding and achieved this through our cocktail reception with petite BLT sandwiches, an I Do signature drink, cafe lighting, ribbon wands, confetti, and a classical guitarist all al fresco. As our guests moved inside for the dinner and dancing, the theme of lots of Southern romantic charm continued through the use of burlap, Spanish moss, mixed glass jars, loads of soft pink and white flowers, pops of color through fabric, a children’s candy and activity table, fabric streamers, tea from Charleston, SC and honey from Savannah, GA as favors, a late night snack of coca-cola and cracker jacks, lots and lots of food, music, lighting, dancing, vintage touches, and a final dance with all of our family and friends to Carolina In My Mind. My favorite moments were our first look and when my husband asked me to have the first dance with him. Our wedding day is a day we will cherish for the rest of our lives.
