This wedding is a study in simple beauty. The kind that can take air plants and mix them with a beautiful lace gown for a look so effortless, you would swear this combo was the norm. And layered on top are images by Aaron + Marisa Hoskins of Aaron Hoskins Photography that showcase a day paired down to the sweetest of moments. See even more right here in the full gallery.
From the Bride… John and I met while living in Phoenix, Arizona. John, a California native, was in graduate school studying computational biology at ASU, and I, an Arizona native, was managing a mentoring program for homeless children at a local nonprofit. Every Sunday, my sister and I would spend the day together, usually involving a late lunch at a restaurant where John was bartending his way through graduate school. After over six months of John flirting with me, we finally got together with a group of friends. It was clear to both of us right away that we had stumbled upon our true soul mates! Our family and friends agreed that we were made for each other. We definitely recognize and appreciate what we have found in each other and could not wait to share our vows and commitment to each other in front of our closest friends and family.
Our palette for the wedding was simple: soft, romantic, beach-inspired pastels. The bridesmaids chose their own dresses in flowing fabric in soft pastel hues. We wanted our wedding to reflect our values and be infused with meaning in every detail, large and small. We opted for sustainable details wherever possible (for example, using air plants instead of cut flowers, reusable mason jars and chalkboards for decor). Almost all of our decor was hand-made (or hand-grown, in the case of the air plants) by us. Our Australian Cattledog, Posey, was our ring bearer, and my seamstress made a custom ring pillow for her using leftover fabric from my gown.
We chose to get married in Santa Barbara not only because it is a beautiful place, but also because John lived there for over 10 years after graduating from UCSB. Glen Annie Golf Club was an easy venue pick; while John lived in Santa Barbara, he would often sneak onto the course on full moon nights to enjoy a round of golf in the moonlight. We were thrilled to be able to be married outdoors at a beautiful venue in a beautiful beach town.
