It’s official, I have a new favorite wedding venue. Seriously, how amazing is The Metropolitan Building? And what is especially amazing is the fact that you can use all their gorgeous items for your wedding, which just happens to make for the most beautiful vintage chic wedding ever. From the Bride… When Pete and I began planning for our wedding, our goal was to find an unusual space that people wouldn’t necessarily expect for a wedding. We wanted a place that was casual, not too stuffy or formal, but still grown-up. The first time we visited the Metropolitan Building in Long Island City, we knew immediately that it was exactly what we were looking for. Standing outside of the building, you would never expect to have such an elegant space behind those walls. Being on the second floor makes you feel like you’ve entered a different time period, somewhere in Paris or Vienna, with the chandeliers, architectural details and antiques spread around the space.
We decided to go with a vintage theme, incorporating much of what the Metropolitan had to offer for our décor. We used their antique chairs, tables and sculptures. We asked our florist, Barbara from Opalia Flowers, to create centerpieces and bouquets that had vintage, garden-like feelings to them. She used dusty pink garden and spray roses, cream dahlias, scabiosa pods, grey dusty miller and seeded eucalyptus for the arrangements set in vintage bottles and mercury glass vases. I wore an all-lace, vintage-inspired dress by Jim Hjelm, which fit the setting perfectly. Bryn from Paperfinger created table cards with beautiful sketches of cities that we love around the world. The table cards went along with the sketch like-feel of our wedding invitations which Paperfinger also created for us. To promote the casual feeling we wanted to set for the wedding, we had a photo booth and fun props for our guests. It was a huge hit, and many guests visited it more than once! To go along with the photo theme, we also hung fun photos of Pete and me as kids and pictures of our adventures together over the past 10 years.
The second most important decision we made for the wedding, besides the venue, was picking our photographer. There are so many talented photographers in New York, so the choice can be pretty overwhelming! There was no doubt in my mind after the first meeting with Tory Williams that she was the perfect photographer for us. Not only is she a genius behind the camera, she is an absolute pleasure to work with. She immediately puts you at ease and makes you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. She has a fun, upbeat personality while never being pushy or obtrusive. We had so much fun working with her, and we now have the most beautiful pictures that we will cherish forever! Our wedding was such a magical day, full of so much love and happiness! The Metropolitan Building was the perfect setting for our celebration, and we wouldn’t have changed a thing. We are so thankful for all of our wonderful vendors, friends and family for helping us put together such an unforgettable day.
