Weddings in Italy are the stuff that dreams are made of and it’s usually stuff that needs no introduction. Just a simple Look at this would do. But alas, we can’t go without mentioning the images photographed by Landon Jacob Productions. They’re insanely beautiful. The breath taking scenery, the so, so sweetly in love Bride and Groom, the guests elegantly lounging poolside…these are just a few of the many beautiful tidbits you’ll find in the gallery. Now back to Look at this…
From the Bride… Soon after our engagement, Ross and I started to plan a stylish wedding for 120 guests in our hometown of Edmonton, Alberta. We perused venues, dreamed of tasty foods and imagined how we could share a city we love with our guests. After about three months of planning, I finally admitted to myself I was not excited about the wedding we were planning. Very nervously, I confessed to Ross that I was unsure about our plans. Much to my surprise, Ross let out a big sigh of relief, smiled and said, “Thank goodness.”
Erasing all notions of what our wedding should be, we focused how we wanted to feel on our wedding day: relaxed and happy – exactly how we feel when traveling. So we decided to run away to Italy. We planned a four-day affair filled with outrageously delicious food and wine, time to explore and many opportunities for casual cocktails in the town square. Neither of us remembers why we chose the small Italian town of Ravello – it just fit. Drifting high on cliffs between the sky and the sea, the beautiful town is intimate, almost secretive. We knew the quaintness would afford us the one thing we wanted most – a lot of time with the people we loved. Our guest list was edited to our immediate family and friends — those closest to us who will forever support us in the happiest and hard moments in our marriage.
Our actual wedding day was spectacular. It went beyond anything we ever imagined. We surrounded ourselves with the best talent, from our wedding planner to makeup artists and photographers, and we just settled into the experience and enjoyed the significance of the moments. We started the day with a hike and swim in the sea. Mid-afternoon, we began the wedding preparations for our 5 p.m. ceremony (the mayor of Ravello married us!). The entire night was an amazing celebration, with prosecco in the town square, dancing in the gardens and a four-course dinner served poolside under an 11th century arch. The best part was everyone’s awe and delight, particularly our own — the day felt far more significant that we ever imagined it could.
