From the Bride…. Canaan and I met while we were students at Virginia Tech, but it was the end of my senior year, and I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, a few months after we met. We carried on a long-distance relationship for over two years, but he was going through medical school and we were still in different cities, so ended up breaking up. A few years later, Canaan was living in Charlotte and one summer night, we found ourselves going to the same concert, and the rest is history! After yet another year of long-distance, I moved to Johnson City, Tennessee so we could finally live live together in the same city! That summer, Canaan completely surprised me one afternoon in our kitchen and got down on one knee… I of course said yes!

My family has been vacationing at Lake Oconee in Georgia ever since I was a little girl, and I always thought it would be the perfect place to get married one day. Fortunately, Canaan had grown to love it there as much as I do, so we easily decided that we would get married outdoors on the lake. We looked at a few different venues but were blown away by the people and surroundings at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation. We wanted a classic, yet rustic wedding with a very laid-back and romantic feel to it, and this was the perfect location for our vision. I loved planning every detail of our wedding and wanted everything to represent us, our love for each other and our laid-back personalities. I chose green and yellow for our colors and wanted to incorporate a lot of burlap and lace. I also wanted to include personal details, and one of those was a large chicken-wire frame with clothespins holding childhood pictures of us, between two large framed pictures of our parents on their wedding day. We also had signature drinks of Georgia peach mojitos and Tennessee teas, along with yellow or green striped straws depending on which drink you chose. One of my favorite details of the day was a canoe sitting on top of bales of hay with an assortment of beer and water inside. It was perfect for guests to grab a cold drink without having to make a trip to the bar. Inside the tent, I loved the wrought-iron chandeliers that hung from the ceiling and beautiful, rustic-inspired flower centerpieces created by Kent Duffey. The reception was filled with so many wonderful memories, including a surprise appearance from the lead singer of the Temptations tribute band to sing “My Girl” for our father-daughter dance.

The moment I’ll never forget is dancing with my husband towards the end of the night, looking around at all of our amazing family and friends on the dance floor and feeling so much love and happiness around us! We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make our wedding day so special and all of the wonderful people in our lives who made the trip to Georgia to celebrate with us.
