From Jaimie Cohen of Estoria Social... Gus's family has a rich Greek heritage, and the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Annunciation in Atlanta provided a perfect backdrop for their traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony. Clusters of white hydrangeas and white roses, secured with white satin ribbons, lined the mahogany church pews. Natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows spilled onto the ceremony space and lit up the pastoral depictions on the stained glass windows. Guests were amazed by the beautiful hand-tiled mural on the domed ceiling ceiling as they listened to the couple exchange their touching vows. Katherine wore a dress she had worn for a debutante ball in high school and updated the gown with touches of antique lace on the bodice. She carried an unstructured bridal bouquet made up of creamy peach roses, luscious salmon peonies, apricot calla lilies and delicate maidens fern, hand-tied with an ivory ribbon. Her bridesmaids sported ruffled collar dresses, a perfect complement to their bouquets. The handsome groom and groomsmen wore classic suits and green bow ties to add to the southern charm. Their lapels were covered in simple hypericum berry boutonnieres, and the groom stood out with his full peach peony to match his bride.
On the heels of the ceremony, Gus and Katherine wanted to highlight their Southern lifestyle throughout their wedding decor, food and music. The couple's reception took place at the King Plow Event Gallery on the vibrant west side of Atlanta. The space, once a functioning plow factory, boasts high ceilings, exposed brick and the original concrete sealed flooring dating back to 1902. The couple hosted their cocktail hour in the middle gallery space surrounded by an ombre peach lantern chandelier over their magnificent bar. Cocktail tables were dressed in apple green linens and topped off with peach campanella garden roses. Katherine and Gus both have a passion for local music and selected bluegrass band Parker Smith and the Bandwidth to perform at their wedding after attending their concert earlier in the year. The band played an unplugged set as guests sipped their bourbon cocktails.
As the staff pulled back the heavy curtains to reveal the reception gallery, the guests were seated at tables draped in classic ivory linens with natural burlap overlays. Lush floral arrangements topped the tables with their organic design with white hydrangeas and spray roses, peach lisianthus, “happy romance” hypericum berries, garden roses and yellow billy balls with accents of garden ferns. The 18-person estate table sat at the center of the room, covered in pistachio linens with a modern geometric pattern. Glass bubbles, strung on peach ribbon, hung from the ceiling with delicate floral arrangements in their glass enclosures. Katherine's sister, an artist and jewelry designer, created "Bride" and "Groom" signs that hung from their chairs with super-sized Scrabble letters — the couple's favorite game. Guests dined on traditional southern fare including shrimp and grits, beef tenderloin and fried green tomatoes. The couple and their guests danced the night away and enjoyed a traditional Greek snack called koufetas, hand-prepared by the bride and her family.
