Chicago Wedding at The Rookery from Olivia Leigh Photographie
It's official. I've found my favorite venue in Chicago and it's called The Rookery. Have you seen it? It's an amazing little bit of architectural history and makes for the most beautiful backdrop for your wedding. This adorable couple fell in love with it the very first time they saw it and just knew they had to get married there. Olivia Leigh Photographie captured each and every detail of their pretty blue inspired fete and we're seriously swooning over every.single.inch! Click here for even more.

From the Bride... Our wedding was an event that was 10 years in the making… Matt and I met in college during a resident advisor leadership retreat, and after our first romantic night together (sitting on a dock talking and watching shooting stars), we pretty much knew we wanted to be together. However, the years that followed took us both into medical training that left us too busy (not to mention too poor!) to even consider planning a wedding. All of this was exacerbated by the fact that we weren’t always even in the same city, as I did my residency training in Wisconsin while he was still completing his in Chicago. Despite all of these hurdles, we finally found ourselves done with training and living together again in July 2011, and a mere month later, on our 10-year anniversary Matt was finally able to propose.
Having had quite a lot of time to imagine what I wanted our special day to be like, I had a pretty clear vision, which definitely helped during the planning stages. While I’m originally from the southwest and Matt grew up in a small town in Illinois, there was no question that Chicago was the right place to hold our wedding – it’s been home to both our relationship and all our goals and aspirations for almost as long as I can remember. I had known for years that The Rookery was the perfect venue for us – it’s a breathtakingly beautiful space, and as we’re both fans of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright, it seemed like too amazing of an opportunity to pass up. Our love of the city and its architecture was behind many of the design elements that we chose, aided at many points along the way by the creativity of our talented and fabulous vendors. My favorite part of planning our "Classic Chicago Wedding with a Twist" was the fact that Matt was as involved and invested in many of the details as I was – we were as much partners in planning our wedding as we have been in every other adventure we’ve undertaken.
In the end, our wedding day was more than a party commemorating the fact that we were finally saying “I do.” It was a joyous celebration of all of the years of hard work and sacrifice that went into building the wonderful life that we share, as well as a testament to all of the friends and family who helped and guided us along the way. It was without a doubt the wedding of my dreams, the best day of my life and well-worth the wait!
